US in Talks with Four Groups to Buy TikTok, Says Trump
US President Donald Trump has confirmed that his administration is actively engaging with four different groups regarding the potential acquisition of TikTok, the popular Chinese-owned social media platform. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump stated that all four options are strong contenders for the deal.
"We're dealing with four different groups, and a lot of people want it ... all four are good," he said when asked about the progress of negotiations.
TikTok’s Future in the US
The fate of TikTok in the United States has been uncertain since the enactment of a law on January 19, requiring its parent company, ByteDance, to either sell the platform or face a ban due to national security concerns.
Upon taking office on January 20, Trump signed an executive order delaying the enforcement of the law by 75 days. This move allowed time for further negotiations and an assessment of options that would address security risks while avoiding an abrupt shutdown of the app, which boasts millions of US users.
Potential Buyers and Valuation
The uncertainty has drawn interest from several high-profile buyers, including Frank McCourt, the former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Analysts estimate that TikTok’s US operations could be valued at up to $50 billion, making it one of the most significant potential acquisitions in the social media industry.
Despite the ongoing discussions, neither TikTok nor ByteDance has responded to media inquiries regarding the sale.
Critical Negotiation Period Ahead
With the 75-day extension nearing its end, the next two months will be crucial in determining TikTok’s future in the US market. The outcome could either lead to a successful sale, allowing the app to continue operating under new ownership, or a shift in policy that could impact its operations nationwide.
