Saif Ali Khan Stabbing: Main Accused Arrested in Thane, Actor Recovering After Surgery
Mumbai: The Mumbai Police have arrested Vijay Das, the main accused in the stabbing incident involving Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, in the early hours of Sunday. The suspect was apprehended from a labor camp near the TCS Call Center in Hiranandani Estate, Thane West, in a joint operation led by DCP Zone-6 Navnath Dhavale's team and the Kasarvadavali police.
The incident occurred early Thursday when the accused barged into Saif Ali Khan’s 12th-floor apartment in the Satguru Sharan building, Bandra, with the intention of robbery. During a confrontation, the actor suffered six stab wounds before the attacker fled the scene. Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital by his son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, where he underwent multiple surgeries and is currently recovering.
Details of the Arrest and Suspect
The suspect, Vijay Das, also known by aliases Bijoy Das and Mohammad Iliyas, had previously worked at a Mumbai pub. Police revealed that Das used the building's staircase to access Saif’s apartment. CCTV footage captured him entering the premises and later shopping for headphones at a Dadar store around 9 a.m. on Thursday, wearing a blue shirt.
Saif’s house staff member, Eliyamma Philips, also known as Lima, was the first to encounter the intruder. She attempted to stop him and sustained injuries during the scuffle. Her screams alerted Saif Ali Khan, who confronted the attacker. In the ensuing struggle, the actor was stabbed multiple times, including in his hand and neck. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif’s wife, informed the police that while the attacker became aggressive, he did not steal any valuables despite the jewelry being left out in the open.
Saif Ali Khan’s Condition and Recovery
Saif Ali Khan was admitted to Lilavati Hospital with six injuries, including two deep wounds on his left hand and neck. Doctors revealed that the actor walked into the hospital with a knife lodged in his spine, resulting in spinal fluid leakage. After undergoing multiple surgeries, he was declared “out of danger” and transferred to the ICU for observation.
On Friday, Dr. Niraj Uttamani, chief operating officer of Lilavati Hospital, updated the media on Saif’s recovery. “He is completely cheerful. In fact, we are planning a discharge in the next two to three days,” Dr. Uttamani said.
Investigation and Case Progress
The police stated that the suspect, Vijay Das, would be presented before a court for remand later on Sunday. The investigation revealed that Das had been spotted at Bandra railway station, where he likely boarded a train after fleeing Saif’s residence. He was later identified and tracked down using CCTV footage.
This shocking incident has raised concerns about security, even for high-profile individuals, and the police are continuing their efforts to gather evidence and ensure justice in the case.
