Built on Experience: Xavier Romero’s Journey from Ecuador to South Florida
Some entrepreneurial journeys are defined by what is built. Others are defined by the thinking, discipline, and purpose behind it. For Xavier Romero, more than 25 years in real estate development have brought both dimensions together, shaping a journey that extends from engineering and finance to entrepreneurship, organizational growth, and international expansion.
As the driving force behind Romero&Pazmino, Romero has helped transform an entrepreneurial venture founded in Ecuador into an established real estate organization with professional processes, a strong institutional culture, and more than 400,000 square meters developed. His path has been shaped by a belief that real estate is about more than buildings or square meters. At its core, it is about understanding people, creating value, and developing communities where families can build their lives.
Today, that journey is entering a new chapter as Romero&Pazmino expands into South Florida, carrying more than two decades of experience into the U.S. market. At the same time, Romero’s own perspective on leadership continues to evolve, increasingly centered on developing people, creating opportunities, and building a legacy measured not only by what stands physically, but by the lives positively impacted along the way.
In this AllAroundWorlds journey feature, discover how Xavier Romero brought engineering and finance together through entrepreneurship, built Romero&Pazmino over more than 25 years, and is now translating that experience into a new market while pursuing a vision that reaches far beyond real estate.
Engineering to Entrepreneurship
Xavier Romero’s professional journey began with a strong technical foundation. He graduated as a Civil Engineer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador and later continued his studies in Brazil, completing a Master’s Degree in Construction Management and a Specialization in Business Management at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.
Before becoming a real estate entrepreneur, he spent several years in the banking sector as Process Manager at Banco Popular del Ecuador from 1994 to 1997. During that period, he also completed a Management Training Program in Finance at Chemical Banking Corporation in New York in 1995. That experience gave him a valuable perspective on finance, process management, operational discipline, and the importance of building organizations around sound systems.
His engineering background taught him how things are built; banking taught him how businesses and capital work. Real estate eventually brought those two worlds together.
In 2001, that combination of technical training, financial experience, and an entrepreneurial desire to create something tangible and lasting led to the creation of Romero&Pazmino in Ecuador. From the beginning, Romero believed that real estate development should be about much more than constructing buildings or selling square meters. It should be about understanding people, creating value, and building communities where families can develop their lives.
More recently, his academic interests have expanded into neuroscience. In 2026, he completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Neuroscience at the University of Salamanca. Although it may seem distant from real estate, it has deepened his understanding of human behavior, decision-making, and leadership, areas that he now considers fundamental to the way he leads organizations.
Milestones Built Over More Than 25 Years
One of the most important milestones in Romero’s journey was transforming Romero&Pazmino from an entrepreneurial venture into an established real estate development company with professional processes and a strong institutional culture.
Over the years, Romero&Pazmino has developed more than 400,000 square meters and created residential communities that have become important references in their markets. Projects such as Ciudad Equinoccio and Ciudad Mediterráneo reflect the company’s philosophy of combining thoughtful urban planning, quality construction, and attainable homeownership.
Another important milestone was implementing an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. For Romero, growth is meaningful only when it can be supported by processes, discipline, and consistency.
More recently, expanding into South Florida has represented a new chapter: taking everything Romero and his team have learned over more than two decades in Ecuador and applying that experience in one of the world’s most competitive real estate markets.
Growing with Purpose
Romero&Pazmino has evolved from being primarily a construction and development company into a broader real estate organization with a strong focus on the complete customer experience.
Its growth has been based on three principles: understanding the market, maintaining discipline in execution, and never losing sight of the family that will ultimately live in what the company builds.
The company has also become increasingly professionalized. It has invested in processes, quality management, commercial systems, and its people. That institutional development has allowed Romero&Pazmino to grow without losing the entrepreneurial spirit with which the company began.
Today, the company’s experience in Ecuador provides the foundation for Romero&Pazmino Investments and its expansion into the United States.
Expanding into South Florida
South Florida was a natural choice for Romero&Pazmino because it combines a dynamic real estate market, international demand, and strong connections with Latin America.
The objective was not simply to invest in the United States, but to become developers there and build a long-term presence.
Logar Village in Coral Springs, an 11-townhome community, is an important first step. Romero and his team are also developing new initiatives in Davie, including Eldridge Park Estates, with a focus on high-end residential development, as well as additional projects that will progressively expand their presence in the market.
Romero often describes the company’s U.S. expansion this way: “We are not bringing a new company to the United States. We are bringing more than 25 years of experience into a new market.”
Experience Across Markets
Developing real estate in Latin America has taught Romero the importance of adaptability, resilience, and understanding the customer very deeply.
It means learning to operate in environments where economic conditions, financing, and consumer expectations can change rapidly. That experience creates a culture of discipline and problem-solving.
At the same time, Romero recognizes that entering the United States requires humility. The regulatory environment, financing structures, construction processes, and customer expectations are different. His approach is therefore to combine the experience and entrepreneurial agility developed in Ecuador with the best practices and professional standards of the U.S. market.
Romero believes that combination can become a competitive advantage.
Building a Legacy Beyond Real Estate
Romero’s vision is to build an organization that transcends its founders.
He wants Romero&Pazmino to continue growing in Ecuador while establishing a meaningful and respected presence in the United States. However, he no longer defines success only by the number of projects the company develops or the square meters it builds.
After more than 25 years as an entrepreneur, Romero’s perspective has evolved. He increasingly believes that leadership is about creating opportunities for others, developing people, and having a positive influence on the communities around them.
Ultimately, Romero would like the legacy of this journey to be measured not only in buildings, but in lives positively impacted.
A Vision Built to Endure
After more than 25 years in real estate development, Xavier Romero’s journey reflects an evolution from building projects to building organizations, opportunities, and long-term impact. The technical discipline of engineering, the financial perspective gained through banking, and decades of entrepreneurial experience have each contributed to the way he approaches growth today.
As Romero&Pazmino continues its journey in Ecuador while establishing its presence in the United States, Romero is carrying forward more than experience alone. His approach combines the adaptability and entrepreneurial agility developed in Latin America with a willingness to learn from the standards, structures, and expectations of a new market. South Florida represents another stage of growth, but also an opportunity to apply lessons accumulated over more than two decades in a different environment.
Yet perhaps the clearest reflection of Romero’s evolution lies in how he now defines success. Projects, growth, and square meters remain part of the story, but they are no longer the only measures that matter. For him, leadership increasingly means developing people, creating opportunities for others, and contributing positively to the communities around him.
As the next chapter unfolds, Romero’s ambition is ultimately rooted in something that extends beyond real estate: to build an organization that can transcend its founders and leave behind a legacy measured not only by the buildings created, but by the lives positively impacted.
