"Sudden Attack" On Bangladesh Airbase, 1 Killed In Clash With Airmen
Dhaka: A clash erupted between locals and Bangladesh Air Force personnel at an airbase near Cox’s Bazar on Monday, leaving one person dead and several injured.
According to the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR), a biker without proper documents was stopped at a checkpoint near the base. As he was taken in for questioning, over 200 locals reportedly marched toward the base, triggering a violent confrontation.
Authorities claim security forces fired only "blank shots" to protect the installation, denying allegations that live bullets were used. However, locals insist that 30-year-old trader Shihab Kabir was fatally shot during the clash.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin confirmed the death and assured a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, social media outrage has fueled concerns over the government’s ongoing security crackdown, dubbed "Operation Devil Hunt," which has led to over 8,600 arrests in two weeks.
Bangladesh’s military remains on high alert, with Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman stating that forces will continue maintaining law and order until a new government is elected.
