Virat Kohli Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s Record, Becomes Fastest to 14,000 ODI Runs
Dubai, February 23, 2025 – Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli created history in the Champions Trophy 2025 by becoming the fastest batter to reach 14,000 runs in ODI cricket, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record. Kohli achieved the milestone in just 287 innings, a remarkable feat considering Tendulkar had taken 350 innings to reach the same mark.
The Indian batting maestro is now only the third player in ODI history to cross 14,000 runs, joining the elite company of Kumar Sangakkara, who reached the milestone in 378 innings. However, Kohli stands alone as the only batter to achieve the feat in under 300 innings, further cementing his place among cricket’s greatest.
Milestone Achieved in Style
Kohli, who needed just 15 runs before the match to reach the landmark, wasted no time. He brought up the milestone in spectacular fashion, smashing a classic boundary off Haris Rauf in the 13th over of India’s innings.
Pakistan’s Struggles with the Bat
Earlier in the day, Pakistan managed to post 241 all out in 49.4 overs after being put in to bat. Saud Shakeel (62) and Mohammad Rizwan (46) were the key contributors, stitching together a 104-run partnership to stabilize their innings. A late 38-run cameo from Khushdil Shah helped push Pakistan past the 240-run mark on a sluggish pitch.
India’s bowlers put up a disciplined performance, with Kuldeep Yadav leading the attack by picking up 3 wickets for 40 runs.
India in Control of the Group
With this victory, India has strengthened its hold on Group A and is on course for a place in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Pakistan now faces an uphill battle, having already lost their first match against New Zealand.
The Champions Trophy 2025 continues to witness history being made, and with Kohli in prime form, Indian fans will be hoping for more record-breaking performances in the matches ahead.
