Jasprit Bumrah Hits the Gym After Being Ruled Out of Champions Trophy; Begins 'Rebuilding' Journey
India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah may be sidelined from the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, but he has already set his sights on recovery. Just days after being ruled out of the tournament, Bumrah took to social media, sharing a glimpse of his rehabilitation with a single-word caption: "rebuilding."
The Instagram post, featuring a picture of him working out in the gym, quickly gained traction among fans and well-wishers, with many offering their support and encouragement. The 31-year-old’s absence is a significant setback for the Indian team, which will now have to rely on a relatively inexperienced pace attack. Harshit Rana has been named as his replacement in the squad.
Bumrah Ruled Out Due to Injury
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Bumrah’s unavailability earlier this week, citing a lower back injury as the reason for his withdrawal.
“Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The Men's Selection Committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement,” read the BCCI's official statement.
Bumrah has not played a competitive match since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Sydney last month. He managed to bowl just 10.1 overs in the first innings before back spasms forced him off the field for medical scans. Although he batted in the second innings, he was unable to resume bowling duties.
Impact on Team India
Bumrah’s absence is a massive blow for India, given his exceptional performance in last year’s T20 World Cup, where he played a crucial role in India's title-winning campaign. The ace pacer finished the tournament with 15 wickets in eight matches while maintaining an astonishing economy rate of 4.17.
Harshit Rana, who will replace Bumrah in the squad, recently made his ODI debut in India’s series against England. The young fast bowler impressed with his performances, claiming six wickets in three matches, though his economy rate of 6.95 remains an area for improvement.
India’s Champions Trophy Schedule
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is set to take place from February 19 to March 9 and will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and the UAE. Following a hybrid model, India will play all its matches in Dubai. The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by a much-anticipated clash with arch-rivals Pakistan on February 23. Their final group-stage fixture is scheduled against New Zealand on March 2.
While Bumrah’s absence will be felt, India will look to regroup and adapt as they aim for yet another ICC title on foreign soil.
