BJP Poised for a Strong Comeback in Delhi as Exit Polls Predict Landslide Victory

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to make a triumphant return in Delhi's political landscape, as exit polls indicate a decisive victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. According to the latest projections, the party is likely to secure a comfortable majority, marking its return to power in the national capital after 27 years.

Exit Polls Favor BJP's ‘Wapsi’ in Delhi

A compilation of exit poll results, released on Thursday evening, suggests that the BJP is on track to form the government with a commanding lead. The Axis My India survey predicts 45-55 seats for the saffron party, while CNX gives an even higher estimate of 49-61 seatsToday's Chanakya, another major polling agency, foresees 51 seats for the BJP, leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with just 19 seats.

The overall poll of exit polls now assigns 42 of Delhi’s 70 seats to the BJP—six seats more than the magic number required to establish a government. In contrast, the AAP, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is projected to win only 27 seats, a significant decline from its landslide victories in 2015 (67 seats) and 2020 (62 seats).

Congress Fails to Make a Mark

The Congress party, which once held sway in Delhi for 15 consecutive years under Sheila Dikshit, has been virtually sidelined in the 2025 elections. Exit polls predict a single seat, or none at all, for the party, highlighting its continued struggle in the capital. Analysts suggest that the Congress’ failure to forge an alliance with AAP might have further dented its chances.

This electoral setback mirrors its recent debacle in Haryana, where state-level disagreements within the party led to a poor performance despite high expectations.

AAP Dismisses Exit Polls, Confident of Victory

Despite the bleak predictions, the AAP leadership remains optimistic. Party leader Sushil Gupta rejected the exit poll numbers, reminding the public that similar forecasts in 2015 and 2020 had proven inaccurate.

"Every time the exit polls predicted our defeat, we emerged victorious. Arvind Kejriwal has tirelessly worked for the people of Delhi, and the actual results will prove these numbers wrong," Gupta said.

While majority of the polls favor the BJP, some surveys, including WeePreside and Mind Brink, offer a contrasting perspective. They predict a neck-and-neck race, estimating 46-52 seats for AAP and 44-49 seats for the BJPMatrize, meanwhile, presents a closely contested scenario, with BJP securing 35-40 seats and AAP 32-37 seats.

All Eyes on Counting Day

Delhi witnessed a single-phase election on Wednesday, with a high voter turnout reflecting the significance of this battle. The final verdict, however, will be decided on Saturday, when the votes are counted. If the exit poll predictions hold true, it will mark a historic comeback for the BJP, ending the decade-long reign of AAP in Delhi
