The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced on Monday an $800 million investment to modernize facilities for the U.S. Open, marking the largest single investment in the tournament’s history.

The project will include a complete renovation of Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York, and the construction of a new $250 million player performance center. The upgrades are expected to be completed by the 2027 U.S. Open.

“This project enables us to maintain the greatest stage in tennis — Arthur Ashe Stadium — and modernize it in a way that will set it up for the next 25 years,” said Lew Sherr, CEO and executive director of the USTA.

Arthur Ashe Stadium, originally opened more than 25 years ago, will undergo major improvements. Plans include a new grand entrance, enhanced concourses and restrooms, two new luxury suite levels, and new club and restaurant spaces. Additionally, 2,000 new seats will be added to the courtside-level bowl to increase capacity.

The USTA also plans to build a state-of-the-art performance center for players. The facility will feature redesigned locker rooms, upgraded lounges, player dining, a new entrance, a courtyard, and spa-like amenities. Approximately 2,800 players and team members attend the U.S. Open annually.

The architectural firm Rossetti, which designed the original stadium and led previous renovations completed in 2018, will again lead the project.

The USTA confirmed that the project will be fully self-funded, with no reliance on public money or taxpayer support. The organization also emphasized that play and fan access will not be disrupted during the 2026 and 2027 tournaments.

According to the USTA, the U.S. Open contributes approximately $1.2 billion annually to the state of New York’s economy, making it one of the region’s major economic events.

The investment is intended to ensure that the U.S. Open maintains its status as a leading global sporting event, with facilities that meet modern expectations for both athletes and fans.
