US Confirms Coalition Casualty During Anti-ISIS Operations in Iraq

Table of Contents

The U.S. military has confirmed that an anti-ISIS operation in Iraq last week resulted in the death of a coalition soldier who was not a U.S. national. Two other non-U.S. coalition personnel were also injured during the operation.

Simultaneously, U.S.-led efforts in Syria, carried out in collaboration with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), targeted Islamic State militants. One operation led to the capture of an ISIS attack cell leader, according to a statement by U.S. Central Command.

U.S. officials have warned of ISIS's attempts to regroup and stage a comeback in Syria, particularly after the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime in December. The organization has reportedly been leveraging the region's instability to regain a foothold.

Efforts to counter ISIS in both Iraq and Syria remain a priority for coalition forces, as they aim to prevent the resurgence of the extremist group. Further updates on these operations are awaited.
