Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Describes Himself as a “Product” of India-US Bond

Seattle/New York: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella credited the strong relationship between India and the United States for shaping his journey, describing himself as “a product of the bond” that ties the two nations. His remarks came during a special Republic Day reception hosted by the Indian Consulate in Seattle to celebrate India’s 76th Republic Day.

The event, held at the Bell Harbour Conference Center on Sunday, saw over 500 attendees, including prominent members of the Indian-American community, US lawmakers, and top officials. Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson and Nadella served as Guests of Honour at the celebration, marking a significant milestone in the India-US partnership.

Nadella’s Acknowledgment of the India-US Relationship

In his address, Nadella praised the leadership of both India and the US for their commitment to leveraging technology to drive progress in education, healthcare, public services, and small business productivity. Highlighting the shared focus on innovation and collaboration, Nadella stated, “I am a product of the bond that exists between the two countries.”

The Microsoft CEO also expressed gratitude for the opportunities afforded by this strong bilateral relationship, which has fostered technological advancements and deeper ties between the two nations.

Washington Governor Praises Indian-American Contributions

Governor Ferguson lauded the Indian-American community for their global impact, emphasizing their contributions to society and innovation. “The incredible contribution of Indian society extends far beyond India—it benefits the entire world,” he remarked. He also expressed his eagerness to strengthen ties with the Indian Consulate in Seattle during his tenure.

Special Recognition in Washington State

To commemorate the occasion, the Washington State Senate passed a resolution honoring India’s Republic Day. The resolution, spearheaded by State Senator Manka Dhingra and supported by Senator Vandana Slatter, celebrated the enduring friendship between India and the United States.

Several members of the US Congress also attended the reception, including Representatives Suzan DelBene, Adam Smith, Michael Baumgartner, and Kim Schrier. They commended India’s accomplishments as the world’s largest democracy and reaffirmed their support for the India-US relationship.

Cultural Highlights at the Republic Day Celebration

The reception showcased India’s rich cultural heritage through several exhibits and performances. The ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) exhibit featured unique cultural artifacts from each Indian state and union territory, while a photo exhibit, India through Tim’s Eyes, displayed stunning images of India’s iconic landmarks captured by photographer Tim Durkan.

A captivating dance performance titled Natyam celebrated India’s diverse dance traditions, earning widespread applause from the audience. In a symbolic gesture of solidarity, several iconic Seattle landmarks, including the Seattle Great Wheel, Seattle Convention Center, and Columbia Center, were illuminated in the colors of the Indian tricolor.

Strengthening Bilateral Collaboration

Earlier this month, Satya Nadella met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to discuss Microsoft’s expansion plans in India. Nadella expressed his appreciation for PM Modi’s leadership, stating, “Excited to build on our commitment to making India AI-first and work together to ensure every Indian benefits from this AI platform shift.”

In response, PM Modi acknowledged Microsoft’s contributions to India’s technological growth, highlighting the importance of innovation and artificial intelligence in shaping the nation’s future. “It was indeed a delight to meet you, Satya Nadella. Glad to know about Microsoft’s ambitious expansion and investment plans in India,” PM Modi said.

A Testament to the India-US Bond

The Republic Day celebrations in Seattle underscored the deep and enduring partnership between India and the US. With leaders like Satya Nadella advocating for collaboration and innovation, the event served as a powerful reminder of the shared values and aspirations that unite the two nations.
