Indian captain Rohit Sharma played a brilliant innings in the second ODI against England, scoring 119 runs off 90 balls. His knock, which included 12 fours and seven sixes, helped India secure a nine-wicket victory and clinch the three-match series 2-0.

After struggling with low scores in recent matches, Rohit silenced critics with a commanding performance. Speaking after the match, he revealed that his success was due to breaking down his batting approach and focusing on playing according to the conditions.

"I really enjoyed scoring runs for the team. With the series on the line, I focused on breaking my batting down into smaller parts and adjusting accordingly," Rohit said.

Adjusting to Conditions

Rohit explained that ODIs require a different mindset compared to T20s and Test cricket. His goal was to bat deep and anchor the innings, ensuring India’s comfortable chase.

"The pitch had black soil, which makes the ball skid. I needed to play with the full face of the bat and place my shots well. England’s bowlers targeted the body, so I planned my shots carefully to find the gaps," he added.

His approach worked perfectly, as India chased the target with ease, thanks to a strong opening partnership.

Partnership with Gill and Team Support

Rohit credited his opening partner, Shubman Gill, and teammate Shreyas Iyer for their support in the middle.

"I enjoy batting with Gill. He is a very composed player who understands the game well. His numbers speak for themselves," he said.

Gill, who scored 60 runs, praised Rohit for making the chase look effortless.

"Batting with Rohit bhai is always great. The way he handles the bowlers makes things easy," Gill remarked.

Bowlers Controlled the Game

India’s bowlers played a crucial role in restricting England’s scoring, particularly in the middle overs.

"The middle overs are key. If we control them, the game swings in our favor. Our bowlers applied pressure, just like in Nagpur, making it difficult for England to score freely," Rohit explained.

Focus on the Champions Trophy

With the ICC Champions Trophy beginning on February 19, Rohit emphasized that India aims for overall improvement.

"We want to keep improving as a team. As long as players are clear about their roles, we are in a good position," he concluded.
