PCB Responds to Indian Flag Controversy at Karachi Stadium Ahead of Champions Trophy

Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued an official statement regarding the absence of the Indian flag at Karachi’s National Stadium, just days before the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. The issue gained attention after a video circulated on social media, showing flags of all participating nations except India’s.

In response to the uproar, a PCB spokesperson clarified that the flag display policy was determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC). "As per ICC guidelines, only four flags will be hoisted on match days: the ICC flag, the PCB flag as the host board, and the two competing teams' flags," the spokesperson stated while speaking to Hindustan Times.

India is set to play all its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai, as the Indian cricket team did not receive clearance from their government to travel to Pakistan. Consequently, there are no scheduled matches for India in Karachi, Lahore, or Rawalpindi, making the absence of the Indian flag at these venues a procedural matter rather than a political statement.

India, placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, will begin its campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium. The much-awaited India-Pakistan clash is set for February 23, a match that is expected to draw millions of viewers worldwide.

The Champions Trophy will commence on February 19, with the final slated for March 9. Group B features England, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan, with an exciting England-Australia encounter scheduled for February 22 in Lahore.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi addressed the concerns, stating, "We are committed to ensuring a fair and successful tournament. The arrangements have been made in alignment with ICC regulations, and we appreciate the cooperation of all participating nations."

Despite logistical challenges, the Champions Trophy 2025 is expected to deliver high-quality cricketing action, with teams and organizers working to ensure the smooth execution of this prestigious tournament.
