Longtime Fox News Host Maria Bartiromo Disputes Reports of Termination

Fox News Media announced on September 3 that Bartiromo was no longer with the company after more than 12 years. The network said her departure was effective immediately and initially gave no explanation, later describing it as a “business decision.”

A day later, however, Bartiromo's attorney Bryan Freedman strongly challenged reports that she had been terminated or was no longer employed by Fox. He said Bartiromo was still an employee and claimed that he had evidence and witnesses to support her position.

Why Bartiromo’s Exit Has Become Controversial

The disagreement comes after reports that Bartiromo may have shared internal Fox communications with officials at the White House.

According to reporting by several media outlets, the communications involved internal guidance about coverage of President Donald Trump’s claims concerning the 2020 election. The reports suggest that sharing the information may have violated Fox's internal policies.

However, these allegations have not been publicly confirmed by Fox News, and Bartiromo's attorney has rejected the reports surrounding her departure. The Washington Post also noted that it had not independently corroborated some of the reporting about the alleged communications.

Fox News Stands by Its Departure Announcement

Fox's official statement was brief. The network said Bartiromo was no longer with Fox News Media and thanked her for her work over the past 12½ years.

The company has not publicly provided a detailed explanation for the decision. Fox also declined to comment on Freedman's statement disputing the reports about Bartiromo's employment status.

Meanwhile, Fox has already begun adjusting its programming. “Mornings With Maria” is transitioning to “Mornings With Fox Business,” while her other programs are being handled by rotating or temporary hosts.

Bartiromo Built a Major Career at Fox

Bartiromo joined Fox News Media in 2014 after two decades at CNBC, where she became one of the best-known financial television journalists in the United States.

At Fox, she eventually hosted several prominent programs, including “Mornings With Maria,” “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street” and “Sunday Morning Futures.” Her shows gave her a significant platform in both financial and political news.

Her career has also included controversy, particularly surrounding coverage of the 2020 U.S. presidential election and claims about election fraud. Bartiromo was among Fox personalities whose broadcasts became part of major defamation litigation involving voting technology companies. Fox settled Dominion Voting Systems' lawsuit for $787.5 million in 2023.

Trump Reacts to Her Departure

President Donald Trump has publicly expressed disappointment over Bartiromo's exit.

Trump praised the longtime host as a professional and described her as a “true warrior,” while also saying that her departure would disappoint many of her viewers.

His reaction adds another layer to an already unusual media story, particularly because reports about Bartiromo's alleged sharing of internal Fox communications involve the White House.

What Happens Next?

For now, Bartiromo's employment status remains the central point of disagreement.

Fox News has publicly said that she is no longer with the network, while her attorney insists that reports saying she was fired or is no longer an employee are false.
