Maharashtra Police Files FIR Against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina Over ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy
Mumbai – The Maharashtra Cyber Police have registered an FIR against podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia and comedian Samay Raina, along with 30 others, for allegedly broadcasting obscene content on the show India’s Got Latent.
This is the second FIR against the duo, following a similar case filed by the Assam Police on Monday.
Police Action and Charges
A senior police officer confirmed that the case has been filed under Section 67 of the IT Act, which deals with the transmission of obscene material in electronic form, along with other legal provisions.
“We have registered a case against 30 individuals, including artists, hosts, judges, and participants. Summons will be issued, and they will be asked to join the investigation,” the official said.
Government and Commission's Response
The Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier announced that Allahbadia and Raina were booked in Assam. Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, the State Women’s Commission has urged police to halt the show’s telecast and take action.
“We have asked the police to take necessary legal steps and submit a report,” said Rupali Chakankar, Chairperson of the Maharashtra Women’s Commission.
Summons Issued
Following the FIR, Mumbai Police have summoned Allahbadia, Raina, and other artists. On Tuesday evening, lawyers for Ashish Chanchlani and another artist visited Khar Police Station in response.
The controversy has sparked debate on the limits of comedy and online content, with opinions divided over whether the show crossed ethical lines or if the legal action is excessive.
