Maharashtra Cyber Cell Rejects Samay Raina’s Plea for Fresh Appearance Date in ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy
New Delhi – The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has rejected comedian Samay Raina’s request for a fresh appearance date in the ongoing investigation into the controversial ‘India’s Got Latent’ case. Raina, who is currently in the United States for a series of performances, had sought an extension until March 17, but authorities have directed him to appear by February 17.
Cyber Cell Summons Raina Despite Overseas Commitment
According to sources, Raina’s legal representatives had informed the Cyber Cell that the YouTuber was unavailable as he was engaged in international shows. However, officials declined the request, emphasizing the need for his presence in the investigation.
The controversy erupted after a contentious question posed by fellow content creator Ranveer Allahabadia (popularly known as BeerBicepsGuy) to a contestant on the show gained widespread attention. The question, perceived as offensive and inappropriate, triggered public outrage and led to multiple legal cases in Maharashtra and Assam.
Legal Troubles Mount for Online Comedians
Samay Raina is among several digital creators facing legal scrutiny over their involvement in the show. The Cyber Cell has issued summons to more than 40 individuals, including comedians Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Mukhija, and Jaspreet Singh. Authorities are investigating the nature of the show’s content and its compliance with legal and ethical broadcasting standards.
Public Backlash and Government Response
Following the uproar, the controversy reached the Parliament, with several lawmakers condemning the show’s content. In response, Raina took to social media to apologize and announced the removal of all ‘India’s Got Latent’ episodes from his YouTube channel. “My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Ranveer Allahabadia also issued an apology, stating, “Comedy is not my forte,” distancing himself from the backlash. Meanwhile, several of Raina’s upcoming shows in Gujarat have been reportedly canceled amid growing protests.
Investigation Continues
With the deadline for Raina’s appearance approaching, legal experts suggest that failure to comply with the summons could lead to further legal consequences. Authorities remain firm in their stance, indicating that all individuals connected to the show will be required to cooperate in the investigation.
As the controversy unfolds, the case highlights the growing scrutiny of digital content and the responsibilities of content creators in maintaining ethical standards in entertainment.
