US Lottery Winner of $2 Billion Loses Entire Los Angeles Mansion in Devastating Wildfires
Edwin Castro, the record-breaking winner of the $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot, tragically lost his $25.5 million Malibu mansion in the devastating Palisades Fire. The mansion, once a symbol of luxury and affluence, was reduced to ashes in the wake of the deadly blaze.
Photos obtained by The New York Post show the aftermath of the fire, with only concrete pillars and smouldering remnants of wood left standing, along with the ruins of Castro's $3.8 million car collection. The mansion was one of several properties Castro had purchased after his historic win in February 2023, which made headlines worldwide.
The home, situated above the renowned Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood Hills, featured five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and stunning coastal views. At its peak, Castro’s property placed him among celebrity neighbors such as singer Ariana Grande, actor Dakota Johnson, and comedian Jimmy Kimmel. However, the fire has left the once-luxurious home in a state of devastation, turning the area into a barren, apocalyptic wasteland.
Castro, who chose the lump sum payout of $997.6 million from his Powerball win, has faced an unimaginable loss. The property was one of the many luxurious investments he made after his massive windfall in November 2022. Despite the destruction, the memories of the mansion's former grandeur remain.
The fire, which continues to rage through parts of Southern California, has affected countless others in addition to Castro. The tragedy serves as a reminder of the unpredictable and destructive nature of wildfires, especially in areas prone to natural disasters.
