ICC Faces Backlash After Pakistan's Name Disappears from Champions Trophy Logo During India vs Bangladesh Broadcast

Dubai : The International Cricket Council (ICC) found itself in a controversy after Pakistan's name reportedly vanished from the Champions Trophy 2025 logo during the live broadcast of the India vs Bangladesh Group A match at the Dubai International Stadium. The incident led to widespread speculation and backlash on social media.

The Champions Trophy logo, which typically includes the name of the host country, is displayed on the top left corner of the broadcast screen throughout the tournament. While no issues were reported during the tournament opener between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi, viewers quickly noticed the omission during the India-Bangladesh match.

Social Media Uproar and Political Tensions

The omission came amid tense political relations between India and Pakistan over the hosting of the Champions Trophy. The Indian government had declined to allow Team India to travel to Pakistan for the event, leading to extensive discussions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the ICC. After multiple meetings, a hybrid model was agreed upon, with Dubai chosen as the venue for all of India’s matches.

Speculation intensified when reports emerged earlier that India's Champions Trophy jersey did not feature Pakistan’s name as the original host. The BCCI had dismissed these claims, but the latest incident fueled fresh debates.

ICC Clarifies 'Technical Glitch'

As social media debates raged, an ICC spokesperson issued a clarification, attributing the missing name to a graphics-related technical issue.

"The omission was due to a graphics-related technical issue, which will be rectified from tomorrow. It was not possible to change the logo during the match," the spokesperson said, as reported by Geo TV. He also assured that future broadcasts of India's matches would display the correct logo with Pakistan’s name included.

Interestingly, the ICC official noted that Pakistan’s name was visible in social media clips of the match, suggesting that the glitch was limited to the live broadcast feed.

Upcoming India-Pakistan Clash Raises Stakes

The controversy comes ahead of the highly anticipated India-Pakistan Group A clash scheduled for Sunday in Dubai. With Pakistan suffering a 60-run defeat against New Zealand in their opening match, the encounter against India has become a must-win fixture for them to keep their semi-final hopes alive.

This latest incident adds another layer to the already heated cricketing and political rivalry between India and Pakistan, with fans and analysts closely watching how the ICC manages future broadcasts and tournament logistics.
