No 'Pakistan' On Team India Jersey: BCCI's Champions Trophy Directive Leaves Pakistan Board Fuming
A fresh controversy has arisen regarding the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, with India reportedly objecting to the host nation’s name, ‘Pakistan’, being printed on Team India's jerseys. The tournament is set to take place in Pakistan and Dubai, but India will play its matches in Dubai. Pakistan is officially hosting the tournament, but the refusal to print the host nation’s name has sparked tensions.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expressed frustration over the decision. A PCB official, speaking to news agency IANS, accused the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of mixing politics with cricket. The official claimed that the BCCI had also previously refused to send Indian captain Rohit Sharma to Pakistan for the captains' meeting, an event that typically precedes the Champions Trophy.
"BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not good for the game," the official said. "They refused to travel to Pakistan, they don't want to send their captain for the opening ceremony, and now they don't want the host nation’s name on their jerseys. We believe the ICC will step in and support Pakistan."
Despite the PCB's pressure, the BCCI has maintained its stance. India had already insisted that it would not travel to Pakistan for the tournament, leading to a compromise agreement. This arrangement will prevent the PCB from sending its team to India for future ICC events as well.
