12 Key Trump Picks Set to Deliver on Republican’s Promises

Table of Contents

As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office, he has already begun assembling a powerful team to tackle his administration’s key promises. With ambitious plans to reshape the country, Trump has nominated individuals not only loyal to him but also experienced in their fields, tasked with implementing his bold agenda. From immigration reform to changes in foreign policy, here's a look at 12 notable cabinet picks and the six major campaign promises they’ll help fulfill.

1. Mass Deportation and Border Security

One of Trump’s most significant promises was to carry out the largest mass deportation of undocumented immigrants in US history. Additionally, he vowed to complete the border wall with Mexico. To oversee these initiatives, Trump has appointed South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as Homeland Security Secretary and former ICE Director Tom Homan as his Border Czar. Both are vocal critics of current immigration policies and are staunch proponents of a tougher stance on border security.

2. Economic Overhaul: Tax Cuts and Tariffs

Trump’s economic agenda includes aggressive tax cuts and the implementation of tariffs to curb inflation. To manage this, he has nominated Howard Lutnick, co-chair of Trump’s transition team, as Commerce Secretary. Lutnick supports tariffs on foreign goods and deregulation, including policies on cryptocurrencies. For Treasury Secretary, Trump has picked Wall Street financier Scott Bessent, who has advocated for tariff policies and significant government deregulation.

3. Streamlining Government and Cutting Costs

Trump’s promise to dismantle bureaucratic inefficiency is expected to be addressed through the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This initiative will be led by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk and billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy, both of whom are vocal proponents of cutting federal spending and streamlining government agencies. Musk has hinted at reducing government expenditures by as much as $2 trillion, aiming to "shock" the system and reduce unnecessary government spending.

4. Rolling Back Climate Regulations

Trump has committed to rolling back environmental regulations to benefit industries like fossil fuels. North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, who will serve as Trump’s energy czar and Secretary of the Interior, is a strong advocate for fossil fuels but also has experience with clean energy. He will work alongside Chris Wright, a natural gas CEO appointed as Energy Secretary, to push for expanded fossil fuel production while navigating environmental concerns.

5. Foreign Policy and National Security

On the foreign policy front, Trump aims to end the Russia-Ukraine war and impose a hefty tariff on China. He has appointed Florida Senator Marco Rubio and Congressman Michael Waltz as National Security Advisors, both of whom have taken hard stances on issues like the Russia-Ukraine conflict and China’s global influence. Former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard, a military veteran, will serve as Director of National Intelligence, where she will play a pivotal role in shaping US intelligence and foreign policy, especially regarding China and Russia.

6Affordable Care Act Repeal

A key promise from Trump’s campaign was to dismantle the Affordable Care Act (ACA). He plans to replace it with a system designed to lower premiums and expand health savings accounts. To lead the Department of Health and Human Services, Trump has chosen Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a longtime lawyer and anti-vaccine advocate. Despite lacking medical qualifications, Kennedy’s views on vaccines and health policy will likely shape the future of federal health agencies.
