About

Michele Zavoli is an international tourism developer and the co-founder of Travelware, a social impact startup dedicated to transforming destination management through community-driven and regenerative models. With over 15 years of experience spanning sustainable tourism development across Europe and Africa, Michele operates at the intersection of technology, governance, and local empowerment, shaping tourism ecosystems that prioritize both people and the planet.

Every territory is a unique ecosystem, made of culture, traditions, and environment. Communities are their living custodians. Cultural and territorial diversity is what inspires people to dream of travelling. We must protect, celebrate, and enhance this diversity, making it accessible and tangible for visitors so that they understand its value and become active, systemic supporters of local communities. This approach benefits all parties involved, including businesses, because protecting and nurturing the destination ecosystem safeguards the long-term value of their investment and drives their growth.

Driven by a mission to turn tourism into a force for systematic regeneration, Michele focuses on enabling destinations to shift from extractive tourism practices to inclusive, data-driven models where local communities actively participate in decision-making and value distribution. Through Travelware, he has developed cutting-edge technologies that empower communities to activate virtuous cycles of growth and sustainability within their own regions. By leveraging artificial intelligence and blockchain within localized social networks, Travelware promotes transparency, participatory governance, and efficient communication across multiple stakeholders and languages, already yielding promising early results. Travelware is currently operating pilot projects across 20+ destinations in multiple languages, involving as many local communities in Italy, through partnerships with Assidema (Italian National Destination Managers Association) and other organizations, and internationally in Africa, EU, UAE, and South America. These pilot initiatives serve as crucial stress-testing environments to gather feedback and continuously improve the platform before scaling with confidence. Notably, the Travelware portals deployed in Cape Verde already generate support for local kindergartens, demonstrating the tangible community-driven tourism impact and the systematic regenerative model.

Michele's approach reimagines technology through a human-centric lens, ensuring inclusivity while honoring the expertise of local sector professionals. His innovative frameworks have been successfully implemented in collaboration with public institutions, destination management organizations, and international partners, redefining tourism governance, certification, and impact measurement. Through this work, Michele aims to establish tourism as a driver for equity, long-term territorial value, and welfare for communities, in order for the entire destination ecosystem to thrive.

Beyond his pioneering work with Travelware, Michele's multidisciplinary background in law, economics, architecture, marketing, and software development enables him to coordinate complex projects involving engineers, architects, managers, accountants, and public representatives. Michele's professional credentials include a Blockchain & Crypto Master's from Nuclio Digital School, a Google Project Management Professional Certificate, the GSTC Sustainable Tourism Certification, and an executive program in Digital Disruption & Transformation Strategies at Cambridge Judge Business School: a combination that makes him able to coordinate a multistakeholder environment and uniquely positions him at the crossroads of technology, sustainability, and governance. His previous ventures, including Humana Skala, have demonstrated his ability to provide turnkey solutions that respect local environments and communities while optimizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Recognized internationally with awards such as the PATWA Gold Award for Excellence in Innovation in Regenerative Tourism and the Italia-USA Innovation Award, Michele continues to redefine tourism as a systematic source of regeneration for communities, aiming to impact the sector on a global scale and make regenerative tourism a standard for the industry.

With a steadfast commitment to innovation and social impact, Michele Zavoli exemplifies how thoughtful leadership and technology-driven solutions can transform the tourism industry, empower communities, and create lasting value for destinations worldwide.
