About
The world's most iconic destinations are rarely created by chance. They are the result of bold ideas, strategic partnerships, and leaders who possess the vision to transform ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences that leave a lasting impression on millions of visitors. In an era where tourism, entertainment, and real estate increasingly intersect, success belongs to those who can seamlessly integrate creativity, commercial strategy, and long-term value creation. Few leaders exemplify this approach as remarkably as Liakat Dhanji, whose career has been dedicated to redefining destination development through innovation, collaboration, and global thinking.
With more than 34 years of international leadership experience, Liakat has established himself as one of the driving forces behind some of Asia's most recognized branded entertainment destinations. As the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Columbia Pictures Aquaverse, he leads the development of the world's first Columbia Pictures-themed entertainment destination in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. His work extends far beyond developing attractions; it centers on creating immersive ecosystems that unite entertainment, hospitality, retail, dining, and mixed-use development into integrated destinations that contribute to tourism, economic growth, and long-term regional development.
Liakat's professional journey has always been defined by the ability to recognize opportunities before they become trends. His expertise in urban planning, investment analysis, and strategic advisory has enabled him to bridge the gap between visionary concepts and commercially successful developments. Throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated that successful destinations are not built solely with infrastructure but with compelling stories, meaningful partnerships, and experiences that resonate with visitors from around the world.
This philosophy became particularly evident during his leadership of Cartoon Network Amazone, where he conceived and developed the world's first Cartoon Network-themed water park. Under his guidance, the destination evolved into far more than a traditional water park. Through a landmark partnership with Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, an affiliate of Time Warner, the project became one of Asia's most recognized branded entertainment destinations, attracting international visitors while strengthening Thailand's position as a leading tourism hub. By expanding the destination through concerts, festivals, live entertainment, and signature events, Liakat demonstrated an exceptional understanding of how branded intellectual property can be transformed into vibrant, year-round experiences that generate lasting economic value. The project's international recognition and multiple industry awards further reflected his ability to combine strategic planning with operational excellence.
Building upon that success, Liakat once again challenged industry conventions by launching Columbia Pictures Aquaverse. In collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, he envisioned and developed the world's first and only Columbia Pictures-themed branded destination, bringing globally recognized film franchises to life through immersive experiences. His leadership has transformed Aquaverse into a multifaceted entertainment destination that integrates hospitality, dining, retail, live entertainment, corporate events, tourism, and future mixed-use developments. Rather than viewing entertainment as a standalone attraction, he has created an ecosystem designed to generate sustainable growth while strengthening Thailand's global tourism appeal. His ongoing emphasis on digital transformation and artificial intelligence further reflects his commitment to enhancing guest experiences, improving operational excellence, and ensuring long-term competitiveness in an evolving industry.
Long before pioneering branded entertainment destinations, Liakat built an impressive foundation in international real estate and investment. As Chief Executive Officer of Golden Land Property Development PCL, he led the strategic transformation of one of Thailand's leading publicly listed real estate companies. During his tenure, he successfully repositioned the organization, raised more than THB 2.8 billion through private placements from domestic and international investors, and oversaw landmark residential, hospitality, commercial, and mixed-use developments that contributed significantly to Bangkok's modern skyline. Iconic projects such as The Infinity, One Sathorn Square, The Ascott Sathorn, and The Mayfair Marriott stand as lasting examples of disciplined execution, investor confidence, and long-term strategic planning.
Earlier in his career, Liakat served as Managing Director of Vigers International in Hong Kong, where he advised developers, institutional investors, and corporations on investment, valuation, development, and cross-border opportunities throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Those formative years provided extensive exposure to international markets while shaping the investment expertise, commercial insight, and relationship-building capabilities that would later define his entrepreneurial success. The experience also reinforced his belief that meaningful developments require not only financial strength but also trusted partnerships and a clear understanding of market evolution.
Across every stage of his career, one consistent characteristic has distinguished Liakat's leadership: an ability to think beyond individual projects and focus instead on creating enduring destinations that deliver value for businesses, communities, governments, and visitors alike. Whether collaborating with globally recognized entertainment brands, engaging investors, or working alongside public and private sector stakeholders, he has consistently pursued opportunities that balance commercial success with sustainable economic development.
As global tourism continues to evolve through technological innovation, immersive experiences, and integrated destination planning, leaders capable of combining strategic vision with disciplined execution will continue to shape the industry's future. Liakat Dhanji's remarkable journey reflects precisely this rare combination. Through decades of leadership spanning international real estate, investment, hospitality, and branded entertainment, he has demonstrated that transformative destinations are built by leaders who are willing to imagine beyond convention, cultivate meaningful partnerships, and create experiences that inspire generations. His enduring contributions continue to position him among the Global Business Icons to Follow in 2026, setting new benchmarks for destination development and the future of experiential entertainment.
