Ahmedabad : India secured a commanding 142-run victory over England in the third and final One Day International (ODI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, completing a 3-0 series sweep. Shubman Gill's exceptional century, alongside solid contributions from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, laid the foundation for India's triumph, while the bowlers dismantled England’s batting lineup.

Gill’s Masterclass and India’s Dominance with the Bat

After being put to bat first, India faced an early setback when skipper Rohit Sharma departed for just one run. However, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli stabilized the innings with a brilliant 116-run stand for the second wicket. Kohli played a fluent knock of 52 off 55 balls before falling to England’s premier spinner Adil Rashid.

Gill, continuing his rich form, brought up his century in just 95 balls, marking his third consecutive fifty-plus score in the series. His innings of 112 off 102 deliveries featured 14 boundaries and three sixes. Shreyas Iyer added to England’s woes with a quickfire 78 off 64 balls, stitching together a 104-run partnership with Gill.

India’s middle order capitalized on the platform, with KL Rahul chipping in with a brisk 40 off 29 balls. The hosts were eventually bowled out for 356 in 50 overs, with Adil Rashid being the pick of England’s bowlers, claiming 4/64.

England’s Struggles with the Chase

Chasing a steep target of 357, England got off to an aggressive start, with Ben Duckett scoring a rapid 34 off 22 balls despite carrying a groin injury. His 60-run opening stand with Phil Salt raised hopes for the visitors, but once the Indian bowlers found their rhythm, wickets began to tumble.

Joe Root and Tom Banton attempted to rebuild with a 46-run partnership, but the increasing required run rate piled pressure on England’s middle order. India’s bowlers, led by Harshit Rana, kept striking at regular intervals. Rana, who was recently drafted into the squad as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement for the upcoming Champions Trophy, impressed with figures of 2/31 in five overs.

England’s batting lineup crumbled under India’s relentless attack, with the visitors eventually being bowled out for 214 in 42.3 overs. The win marked a comprehensive series triumph for India, reaffirming their dominance in home conditions.

Gill Named Player of the Series

For his exceptional consistency and match-winning performances, Shubman Gill was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series. Reflecting on his innings, Gill expressed satisfaction with his form and credited his success to patience and shot selection.

With this emphatic win, India wrapped up the series 3-0, carrying momentum into their next assignment as they prepare for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
