'Supporting Extreme Right Not Acceptable': German Chancellor Olaf Scholz Criticizes Elon Musk
Davos: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Tuesday criticized Elon Musk for supporting "extreme-right positions," following the tech mogul’s controversial gesture and political endorsements.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Scholz responded to questions about Musk, who made a hand gesture at an event marking US President Donald Trump’s inauguration. The gesture was widely compared online to a Nazi salute, sparking public backlash.
"We have freedom of speech in Europe and in Germany," Scholz said. "Everyone can say what they want, even if they are a billionaire. What we do not accept is if this supports extreme-right positions."
The comments reflect growing concerns in Germany over Musk's support for far-right ideologies, especially his backing of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which is known for its right-wing policies.
