Musk Responds to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Criticism with a Sharp Remark

Berlin: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz addressed concerns on Tuesday about freedom of speech, emphasizing that it should not be used to promote extreme-right ideologies. His statement came following US billionaire Elon Musk’s controversial behavior during Donald Trump’s inauguration celebrations.

“We have freedom of speech in Europe and Germany. Everyone can say what they want, even if they are a billionaire. But we do not accept when this supports extreme-right positions,” Scholz said while speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Musk sparked controversy after a hand gesture he made during Trump’s inauguration was compared online to a Nazi salute. The incident led to backlash, but Musk dismissed the criticism as exaggerated.

Musk’s Response

Taking to his platform X, Musk referred to Scholz as “Oaf Schitz” in response to the Chancellor’s remarks. He also shared a video of Scholz speaking at the Davos meeting.

Musk has previously criticized Scholz on X, calling him “an incompetent fool” after a tragic attack at a German Christmas market.

Support for Far-Right AfD Party

Musk’s repeated support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has stirred political tensions in Germany. The AfD, known for aligning with Trump’s policies, is gaining traction ahead of upcoming elections.

Despite criticism, the German government has not collectively abandoned Musk’s platform, X.

EU Investigation into X

The European Commission is currently investigating X for potentially violating content moderation laws. Musk’s recent hosting of AfD leader Alice Weidel for a discussion on X has drawn scrutiny, as authorities monitor the platform for the spread of misinformation.
