
5 Feared Dead In Massive Explosion At Ordnance Factory In Maharashtra's Bhandara
Mumbai: In a tragic incident, five people are feared dead following a massive explosion at an ordnance factory in Maharashtra's Bhandara district, located near Nagpur. The blast occurred around 10:30 am today, causing widespread panic as the sound of the explosion was reportedly heard as far as 5 kilometers away.
District Collector Sanjay Kolte confirmed the incident and said rescue operations are underway. "There has been an accident of blast at Ordnance Factory Bhandara this morning. The rescue and medical teams are deployed to search for survivors, and operations are in progress," stated the official release.
The explosion resulted in a roof collapse, trapping at least 12 individuals beneath the debris. Emergency teams managed to rescue two people while heavy machinery, including excavators, is being used to clear the rubble.
"The situation is critical," Mr. Kolte added, noting that rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate other survivors. Video footage captured by witnesses showed plumes of thick black smoke billowing from the factory site, adding to the alarming nature of the event.
The intensity of the blast left residents in nearby areas shaken, with many recounting how the explosion reverberated across the district.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the explosion, and an investigation is expected to be launched soon. Firefighters are actively working to control any secondary hazards at the site, while medical personnel are stationed nearby to assist victims.
