Lululemon Poaches Athleta CEO as New Chief Product Officer
Lululemon has appointed Maggie Gauger, the former CEO of Athleta, as its new President and Chief Product Officer as the sportswear company reshapes its leadership team under newly appointed CEO Heidi O’Neill.
Maggie Gauger Joins Lululemon
Gauger will join Lululemon on October 26, 2026, taking charge of a newly created role that brings together product design, merchandising, footwear, innovation and materials science.
She most recently served as president and CEO of Athleta, Gap Inc.’s performance apparel brand. Before joining Athleta, Gauger spent many years at Nike in various leadership roles.
Focus on Product Innovation
Gauger's appointment comes as Lululemon looks to strengthen its product offering and respond to changing customer preferences. The company has faced increasing competition in the sportswear market and has been working to move beyond its traditional strength in leggings and other core products.
Her new role will focus on building a stronger product pipeline and improving the process from product development through execution.
Broader Leadership Overhaul
The appointment is part of a wider restructuring under CEO Heidi O’Neill. Lululemon has also appointed Joseph Godsey, formerly chief growth officer at Walmart Canada, as its new chief operating officer.
The company is also searching for new leaders for its brand, communications and technology functions.
Lululemon Looks to Regain Momentum
The leadership changes come at an important time for Lululemon, which has been dealing with slower growth, product-related challenges and stronger competition from other athletic and lifestyle brands.
By bringing in an experienced product executive with backgrounds at both Athleta and Nike, the company is looking to strengthen innovation and reconnect with customers as it enters its next phase of growth.
