From Intern to Global Leader
Tell us about your early life, education, and career journey.
I began my career as an intern in a public sector research organization in India, ER&DC (Electronic Research and Development Center), which laid the foundation for my passion for technology and infrastructure. Over the years, I progressed through leadership roles at Sify Technologies, Airtel, and Tata Communications, where I led global cloud and data center services. Today, I serve as Director at Amazon Web Services, directing large-scale infrastructure operations across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. Each phase of my journey has been about transformation, purposeful innovation, and scaling technology to impact lives across continents.
Leading Infrastructure at Amazon Web Services
What is your current role, and what do you enjoy most about your work?
Currently, I am Director of Infrastructure at Amazon Web Services, responsible for operations across nearly 200 data centers and edge data centers across the globe. What I enjoy most is building and enabling high-performing teams, innovating at scale, and driving operational excellence that impacts millions globally. The opportunity to combine technology leadership with customer experience and sustainability gives my work both meaning and reach.
Scaling Infrastructure Across APAC
What has been your proudest professional accomplishment?
I am proud of my work, and if I have to pick one which I am proud of, I would say that the infrastructure scale-up that I could steer up at AWS across various countries in APAC has been the most fulfilling. Considering the challenges of securing power, resources, and skilled people to build and operate at scale, this accomplishment stands out due to its scale and complexity. In summary, it is about shaping infrastructure that supports billions of digital users worldwide, building sustainable ecosystems that empower communities while mentoring the next generation of leaders.
Turning Excellence into Empowerment
What is one major challenge you’ve faced in your career, and how did you overcome it?
One major challenge has been managing mission-critical global operations under high expectations. At times, my pursuit of excellence created pressure. I learned to overcome this by delegating effectively, trusting my teams, and balancing high standards with agility. This shift allowed me to scale operations more efficiently while empowering people to take ownership and excel.

A Lifelong Commitment to Learning
How do you stay ahead in your industry?
I stay ahead by being a continuous learner, embracing change, engaging with global industry forums, and contributing thought leadership. I actively explore emerging technologies, sustainability practices, and security trends. More importantly, I focus on mentoring, as teaching and learning from others keeps my perspective sharp and future-ready.
Success Beyond Milestones
What advice would you give to young professionals aiming for success?
Success is not just about milestones but about mindset. Stay grounded, embrace failures as lessons, and never stop learning. Build resilience, cultivate empathy, and strive to uplift others as you rise. Dream big, act boldly, and always anchor your journey in values and purpose. True impact comes from creating systems and nurturing people that last.
Conclusion
Dr. Saji PK’s journey demonstrates that true leadership lies in creating impact beyond the workplace. From driving large-scale infrastructure to mentoring future leaders, he has shown that innovation and empathy must walk hand in hand.
As the digital world continues to expand, his vision and commitment to building sustainable ecosystems remain vital. His story is a reminder that success is not defined by milestones alone, but by the values and purpose that guide them.
For young professionals and industry peers alike, his path offers valuable lessons on resilience, continuous learning, and leading with integrity.
