Tell us about your early life, education, and what led you to start your business

I grew up in a family of overachievers and college graduates. My grandfather played professional baseball, and my father was drafted by the NBA. My youngest brother even had a tryout with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. I had so many role models in my family, and that inspired me tremendously. However, it also meant that I had to meet a certain standard and educational level, which, to be honest, was quite intimidating.

I always wanted to have my own business, but my career and jobs often got in the way. However, one particular experience completely changed my trajectory and pushed me toward entrepreneurship. When my second daughter was just born, I was downsized from my job at a bank. That moment was devastating and made me angry at the same time. I told myself I would never again allow anyone to decide whether or not I had a job. I kept that promise.

Karma works in interesting ways. I recently ran into the same person who had eliminated my position, and, surprisingly, he was the one now looking for a job. He couldn’t believe the accomplishments I had achieved since that time. Life truly has a sense of humor. I will never again let anyone determine how much money I make or whether I am employed.

Being an entrepreneur is not for everyone, it requires the right mindset. Like most people, when I first lost my job, I was scared. Jobs make us complacent. Once you realize that you don’t own your job, you begin to think differently. Entrepreneurs are not born; they are made through experience.

What is your business, and what makes it unique in the market?

My business is Miles Development Industries Corporation® (MDI Corporation), a startup venture specializing in consulting, venture capital, and acquisitions.

MDI Corporation focuses on four primary industries for its acquisitions. We build business and profitability models for new ventures, and we also acquire small to mid-sized firms that are underperforming or have acceptable levels of net profitability. MDI Corporation is particularly interested in acquiring underperforming businesses with high growth and expansion potential. This model allows us to transform struggling companies into profitable, sustainable enterprises.

Milestones of Impact

What is one key achievement or milestone your business has reached?

That’s a great question! One key achievement is having my television show picked up by a major network. My company put me in the position to make that happen.

Another major milestone was presenting our product to venture capital investors, a multimillion-dollar product that will revolutionize the industry. Recently, we helped launch SafeDrop® Security System, a solution addressing the nationwide issue of porch piracy in residential areas. SafeDrop targets online shoppers and homeowners, providing a secure way to manage deliveries and prevent theft.

Porch piracy is a serious problem in America, and SafeDrop is the answer. The demand for our product has been significant. Our strategy included detailed market research, phased product rollout, and the development of strong partnerships and strategic alliances to reach underserved markets.

The SafeDrop launch has exceeded our expectations in every metric, adoption rates, revenue figures, customer acquisition, and market penetration. The results have gone beyond our wildest dreams. Within the first year, we achieved our sales goals, and this is just the beginning.

Vision for the Future

What are your future goals for the business?

I have two main future goals.

First, to build Miles Development Industries Corporation® into a multimillion-dollar venture by acquiring additional businesses, particularly in the franchising sector. I also aim to build interconnected ecosystems among my companies to generate continuous wealth, strengthen my reputation as an entrepreneurial risk expert, and further establish myself as a marketing authority. My ultimate vision is to grow MDI Corporation into a billion-dollar brand.

Second, to expand SafeDrop® into a multimillion-dollar product and brand. My long-term objectives include building my legacy as a household name in entrepreneurship, positioning my company as a market leader, and transforming SafeDrop into a billion-dollar enterprise. These goals represent both my personal and professional aspirations for the future.

Staying Ahead

How do you stay competitive in your industry?

There are several key practices that help us remain competitive and focused, and, at times, pressure serves as our biggest motivator.

I make it a point to stay informed about industry trends and market shifts. Gaining insights from different perspectives allows us to identify opportunities and maintain an edge in certain segments of the market. Competition pushes us to analyze challenges from a new angle and to innovate constantly.

I also view America as the land of opportunity. While we don’t face an overwhelming amount of competition, I believe that healthy competition brings out the best in us, both in our services and products.

In my view, there are three forces that motivate people in competitive environments: frustration, desperation, and inspiration. I relate to all three. As an ambitious person, competition keeps me motivated and grounded. It helps me see opportunities more clearly and drives me to perform at my best.

You can’t let competition intimidate you, it’s a part of life. You either fight or run, and I choose to fight. There will always be competition and, equally, there will always be opportunity. Competition forces us to work harder, think smarter, and deliver better. That’s how I stay clear, focused, and motivated despite competitive pressures.

Words of Wisdom

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?

If I could share one piece of advice with aspiring entrepreneurs, it would be this: learn to think differently. It may sound cliché, but it truly matters. Steve Jobs wasn’t wrong. I tend to be a contrarian, I don’t follow the crowd. If you do what everyone else does, you’ll get what everyone else gets. Challenge conventional thinking and develop your own perspective. People who think exactly like others are not really thinking at all.

Secondly, learn to build an ecosystem. Creating ecosystems is one of the best ways to generate long-term wealth. When your businesses are interconnected, they support one another, money and value are recycled within the network. Building ecosystems strengthens sustainability and accelerates growth.

Lastly, learn to see problems as business opportunities. The ability to spot opportunities before everyone else does is what separates successful entrepreneurs from the rest. When you view problems as potential solutions, you start seeing dollar signs where others see obstacles. Those who recognize opportunities early always have the advantage. By the time everyone else catches on, it’s already too late, game over.

That’s the mindset I would encourage every aspiring entrepreneur to develop.
