Growing up in a large family, Charlotte’s early years were shaped by adversity, feeling overlooked, bullied at school, and repeatedly told she wasn’t “clever enough” to achieve anything beyond the ordinary. Despite a discouraging academic environment, she pursued nursing at the prestigious Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, only to find herself again battling self-doubt and external criticism.

What followed was a series of life chapters filled with challenge, growth, and fierce determination. From the stress of constant relocations as a military spouse to the emotional toll of supporting her children, one of whom underwent major neurosurgery, Charlotte experienced the heavy weight of chronic stress and the devastating effects it had on her health. Early Challenges That Shaped the Path

Tell us about your early life, education, and what led you to start your business?

I grew up in a large family with seven other siblings. However, we weren’t close, and there were often tensions between us. I worked hard at school but was bullied and had few friends. I was constantly told by my parents and teachers that I was stupid and would never be clever enough to go to university.

However, I was accepted at the Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford to do my nurse training. During that time, my tutors continued in the same vein as my schoolteachers, telling me that I wasn’t very clever and needed to do better, despite the fact that I was working and studying for 16 hours a day.

My mindset wasn’t great. I constantly felt under confident and suffered from stomach pains, which I now know were due to stress.

After finishing my nursing training, I married a pilot in the Royal Air Force, which meant moving house frequently. The constant relocations and lack of a secure home environment meant my gut issues continued, driven by the stress of moving, finding work, and managing things at home while my husband was away on detachment.

During our constant moves, I was only able to get agency nursing jobs. This involved working in a variety of care environments, including hospitals, nursing homes, and community placements. In order to maintain my nursing registration, I had to complete training and reflections on my work to demonstrate I was fit to practice. I ended up studying for a degree with the Open University, a postgraduate certificate in ergonomics, a postgraduate diploma in physical activity and public health, as well as qualifications in occupational health, nutrition, and neurolinguistic programming (NLP). These all helped me develop coping mechanisms for stress.

During this time, I also had three children who required my time and energy. My daughter had epilepsy and eventually underwent major neurosurgery. During the operation, a blood vessel was accidentally nicked, causing her to fall unconscious and spend time in intensive care on a ventilator. She eventually recovered but was later diagnosed with autism.

As time went on, my gut issues persisted. It wasn’t until I was hospitalized with a severe gut infection that I realized I needed to make a significant change in my health and life.

I trained to become an Advanced Gut Health Advisor and then studied to be a Menopause Coach. I am now passionate about helping other women heal their bodies through diet, lifestyle changes, and NLP, so they don’t have to suffer as I did. It is incredibly rewarding to witness the transformations women experience when given the right tools. This will always remain my passion as I continue supporting as many women over 40 as I possibly can.

A Mission Born from Personal Experience

What is your business, and what makes it unique in the market?

I am a Gut Health Coach for perimenopausal women. My own personal experiences with gut and menopausal issues, combined with the use of NLP tools, make my business unique in the market.

A Global Recognition of Impact

What is one key achievement or milestone your business has reached?

I am about to travel to Hong Kong next week to receive the UK Health Coach of the Year 2025 award.

Expanding Vision for Global Change

What are your future goals for the business?

I intend to expand my business so that I can teach other women how to coach perimenopausal women. Understanding the gut is the most critical component in supporting women’s health, as it regulates inflammation throughout the entire body, including the brain. My vision is for my business to be recognized globally as the go-to solution for gut and perimenopausal issues affecting women around the world.

Standing Out in a Crowded Wellness Space

How do you stay competitive in your industry?

1. Messaging that Resonates with Real Women

I craft messaging around “the woman who…”
Example: “The woman who used to be sharp, driven, and sociable… and now hides in her leggings with a bag of crisps and a glass of wine.”

I also use the words women commonly express:
“I feel invisible.”
“Is this just ageing?”
“I’ve tried everything.”

2. Focus on the Gut–Hormone–Mood Connection

This is the golden triangle. Most women don’t realize that their gut is at the root of their hormonal and mental health symptoms.

Strategy:
I build my program and content around the Gut–Hormone–Mood Reset.

I teach the “why” behind symptoms: estrogen detox, cortisol dysregulation, serotonin production in the gut, etc.
This positions me as an expert, not just a generic “clean eating” coach.

3. I Sell Transformation, Not Information

Information is widely available. Transformation is priceless, especially when women feel like they’re losing themselves.

Strategy:
I highlight how clients will feel after working with me: clear-headed, energized, calm, and confident in their body.

I use real client language like:
“I feel like myself again.”
“I can think straight.”
“I can zip up my jeans without crying.”

Additionally, I have developed my own unique signature framework for my 12-week training program.

Clarity Creates Connection: Advice for Entrepreneurs

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?

Niche down early, and speak to a very specific woman.

Don’t try to help everyone with gut issues. Instead, get clear on who you're really speaking to (e.g., burnt-out perimenopausal women struggling with bloating and brain fog) and build every message, offer, and piece of content for her.

The more specific you are, the more magnetic you become.
That’s where trust (and clients) come from.

Conclusion

Charlotte Cheetham’s journey is a powerful reminder that adversity can become a gateway to purpose. From years of internal battles and health struggles to building a coaching practice that transforms lives, she has redefined what it means to rise above the odds. Her dedication to helping perimenopausal women heal through gut health, mindset work, and sustainable lifestyle changes is not just a career, it’s a calling deeply rooted in lived experience and compassion.

As she continues to expand her impact, train other coaches, and represent the UK on global stages, Charlotte remains committed to one goal: making sure no woman over 40 has to walk her health journey alone or in silence. Her story is one of resilience, renewal, and the kind of leadership that starts from within.
