Building Dreams: The Business and Its Market Presence

Tell us about the business and its presence in the target market?

I'm Shalima Motial, Founder & CEO of Dream Catchers Vision Pte Ltd, a dynamic events, theatre, and film production company based in the vibrant city of Singapore. With our journey now in its 13th year, Dream Catchers has become synonymous with capturing the dreams and aspirations of countless individuals through our diverse array of niche events, captivating theatre productions, and compelling films.

At Dream Catchers, we've built a solid platform for artists from all walks of life, transcending age groups and nationalities. Our commitment to showcasing talent and creativity knows no bounds, and we've had the honor of co-producing numerous events with esteemed channels like Zee TV, Mtv reaching millions across the diaspora.

Over the years, we've organized 40 Worldwide and nationwide contests and a multitude of onstage events, both competitive and non-competitive, providing a stage for artists to shine and audiences to be enthralled. Building on this foundation, we've expanded our horizons into theatre productions and short films, diversifying our offerings to cater to a broader audience.

One of our proudest achievements to date is the production of our full-length feature film, "Dominoes." This labor of love was screened at a cinema hall, captivating audiences with its compelling narrative and stunning visuals. Soon, it will be telecast on Zee TV, allowing millions of viewers to experience the magic of our creation.

A Tapestry of Experiences: Early Life and Education

Tell us something about you, your early life, and your education?

My journey has been a tapestry of diverse experiences, each thread weaving its own story of growth and discovery. It all began with my foray into the world of fashion coordination with Vogue Setters, right after completing my fashion designing course. From there, I soared into the skies as a cabin crew member with SkyLine NEPC Airlines and later with Archana Airways, relishing the adventure of independence at a young age. 

Yearning for new horizons, I pursued further education, including a post-graduation from Annamalai University and mastering in English Literature, alongside delving into the intricacies of business management from NACOLAM.

My journey took an exciting turn with Perfect Relations, where I immersed myself in the realm of media relations, orchestrating album release tours for renowned artists like Alisha Chinai. This experience instilled in me the art of crafting compelling narratives and building publicity for esteemed clients, including Virgin Records.

Embracing the entrepreneurial spirit, I ventured into the realm of placement services, founding Stepping Stones—a venture fueled by my belief in seizing opportunities, regardless of prior experience. The journey of Stepping Stones taught me invaluable lessons in resilience and perseverance as I navigated the challenges of entrepreneurship.

Singapore beckoned with its promise of new beginnings, prompting the launch of Shie Ventures, where I channeled my passion for fashion into a successful venture. However, recognizing the evolving landscape, I pivoted towards a new dream—the inception of Dream Catchers.

Dream Catchers began as an online talent showcase, but its essence soon expanded, blossoming into an events, theatre, and film production company. Rooted in my vision to provide a platform for artists of all backgrounds, Dream Catchers has become a beacon of creativity and inclusivity in the industry. At the cost of sounding modest, I would say my journey is a testament to the power of resilience, adaptability, and unwavering determination. As I continue to chart new territories with Dream Catchers, I am grateful for the lessons learned and the adventures that lie ahead.

What are some of the growth and expansion plans you have in your pipeline? 

At Dream Catchers, we believe in embracing the current of creativity, flowing with inspiration to capture stories that ignite the soul. Our latest endeavor, "The Dream Catchers Show," embodies this ethos as we embark on a journey to unveil inspiring narratives, one dream at a time. With the imminent launch of Season 2, we're eager to continue this voyage of exploration and discovery. Adding to our tapestry of innovative projects, we've recently unveiled "Fastrack," a captivating short film shot amidst the scenic backdrop of Maldives. Infused with our signature flair for originality, "Fastrack" exemplifies our commitment to infuse every project with a unique twist, setting it apart in a crowded landscape.

At Dream Catchers, we're passionate about crafting experiences that resonate on a deeper level. That's why we specialize in curating "Niche" events that transcend the ordinary, offering audiences an immersive journey into the extraordinary.

How has the year been for your company? 

The dawn of the new year has brought with it a wave of excitement and accomplishment at Dream Catchers. We kicked off the year with a resounding bang, launching "The Dream Catchers Show," a platform dedicated to showcasing inspiring stories that resonate with audiences far and wide.

On April 12th, we proudly unveiled our latest creation—a mesmerising short film shot amidst the picturesque landscapes of Maldives. This project was a labor of love, a testament to our unwavering commitment to storytelling excellence.

In addition to our creative endeavors, we've also been actively involved in promoting local theater productions here in Singapore. These theatrical experiences offer a window into the rich tapestry of human emotion and imagination, and we're honored to play a part to help the producers reach out to a wider target audience.

Our efforts towards women empowerment have been recognized with the prestigious "HER Courage" Award—a humbling acknowledgment of our dedication to fostering inclusivity and equality in all that we do.

In my leadership philosophy, I embrace the concept of a three-legged stool, where balance is key to achieving optimal results and quality work. At Dream Catchers, we prioritize three fundamental aspects: having fun, contributing meaningfully, and continuously learning and growing.

Firstly, fostering a sense of enjoyment and camaraderie within the team is essential. When we infuse our work environment with joy and positivity, it not only enhances morale but also fuels creativity and innovation.

Secondly, every team member is encouraged to contribute their unique skills, perspectives, and ideas. We believe that diversity breeds success, and by valuing each individual's input, we create a rich tapestry of creativity and excellence. Thirdly, we are committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth. Absolutely, aligning your passion with your work is paramount for achieving self-actualization and helping others do the same. When you pursue a field that ignites your passion, work doesn't feel like a chore; instead, it becomes a source of fulfillment and joy. Embracing this mindset allows you to approach each day with enthusiasm and anticipation, rather than stress or dread.

As an entrepreneur, I understand the journey of starting from scratch and facing failures along the way. It's crucial to view setbacks as opportunities for growth and evolution. Being open to refining and evolving your ideas, rather than clinging to initial concepts, is key to adapting and thriving in the ever-changing landscape of entrepreneurship.

Creating a rhythm in life is essential for balance and well-being. Taking time each day to reflect, practice gratitude, and engage in activities that nourish the soul sets the tone for a fulfilling and purposeful existence. Prioritizing self-care and health is also vital, as it allows you to show up as your best self in all aspects of life. By embracing self-compassion and allowing yourself to enjoy the journey, you cultivate a sense of ease and effortlessness in your endeavors.

Hobbies or other activities (Acting/dance/speaker/trainer/singer etc.) and any achievements in that field

I'm incredibly passionate about acting. Over the years, I've had the privilege of being part of numerous stage productions, short films, commercials, and even modelling gigs for various brands. For me, the greatest achievement is seeing a smile light up someone's face because of my performance or presence. I thrive on positive energy and am truly a people's person. Surrounding myself with happy, like-minded individuals fuels my passion and creativity.

My entrepreneurship journey has been an exhilarating one. I'm honored to have been recognized as the Most Promising Entrepreneur by the Singapore Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (SICCI), as well as being listed among the Top 20 Entrepreneurs in Singapore by Zee Tv's She Ventures. It's humbling to receive awards such as the Woman Leadership Award and Pioneering Woman Leadership Award from CMO Asia in 2018 and again in 2023, along with the HER Courage Award. Through hard work and dedication, I've had the opportunity to share my story and insights on various platforms, including print media, blogs, and digital media. These acknowledgments are a testament to the incredible journey of entrepreneurship and the joy that comes from making a positive impact.
