India Clinch Record 3rd Champions Trophy Title with Thrilling Win Over New Zealand
Dubai: Team India emerged victorious in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, securing a nail-biting four-wicket win against New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. This victory marks India’s third Champions Trophy title, having previously won in 2002 (joint-winners) and 2013.
Spinners Shine as India Restrict New Zealand to 251/7
After winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat first, hoping to put up a challenging total. However, India's spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/45) played a pivotal role in restricting the Blackcaps to 251/7. Veteran all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami also chipped in with a wicket each, ensuring that New Zealand never gained full control.
Despite the disciplined bowling, Daryl Mitchell (63) and Michael Bracewell (53) anchored the innings, guiding New Zealand past the 250-run mark.
Rohit Sharma’s Heroics Lead India’s Chase
Chasing 252, India got off to a blistering start courtesy of captain Rohit Sharma’s attacking 76. His knock set the foundation for India’s run chase. Though wickets fell at regular intervals, Shreyas Iyer (48) and KL Rahul (34 not out) played crucial knocks to ensure India reached the target in 49 overs.
With this historic win, India has once again stamped its authority in global cricket, claiming its third Champions Trophy title and adding another feather to its illustrious cricketing legacy.
