Hyderabad witnessed a gruesome crime after a six-day search for 35-year-old P Venkata Madhavi, who was reported missing, ended in her husband’s chilling confession. Gurumurthy, a 45-year-old ex-serviceman, admitted to murdering his wife, dismembering her body, and attempting to dispose of the remains by cooking and discarding them.

The Timeline

January 16: Following a heated argument at their home in Meerpet, Madhavi reportedly left the house.

January 18: Madhavi’s mother, Subamma, filed a missing person’s report after failing to contact her daughter. Gurumurthy also participated in filing the report, alleging Madhavi walked out after their disagreement.

January 22: Police suspicions led to further interrogation of Gurumurthy, during which he confessed to the murder and explained his attempts to destroy evidence.

A Crime Unveiled

The couple, married for 13 years, had frequent disputes, with the final argument stemming from Madhavi’s wish to visit her hometown, Nandyal, for Sankranti. Their two children were staying with Gurumurthy’s sister at the time.

According to his confession, Gurumurthy killed Madhavi during the argument and dismembered her body in the bathroom. In an effort to cover his tracks, he allegedly cooked the remains in a pressure cooker, crushed the bones, and boiled them again before discarding them in various locations, including Jillellaguda Lake. This process reportedly spanned three days.

Investigation Progress

Authorities are working to verify the details of Gurumurthy’s confession. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ch Praveen Kumar stated, “We are verifying his claims, and as of now, we have not found any body parts. The investigation is progressing.”

Gurumurthy, originally from Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, currently works as an outsourced security guard at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) facility in Kanchan Bagh. Police are gathering evidence to corroborate his statements and piece together the sequence of events.

Community in Shock

The couple had been living in Venkateswara Colony, Hyderabad, for the past five years. Neighbors expressed shock and disbelief at the gruesome details of the case.

Conclusion

The case has left Hyderabad reeling, highlighting the devastating consequences of domestic conflicts. While the investigation continues, authorities are committed to delivering justice for Madhavi and bringing closure to her family.
