Trump to Meet Xi in China in May, White House Confirms
The White House has confirmed that US President Donald Trump will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on May 14 and 15, marking a key diplomatic engagement between the two global powers.
The meeting, which had been anticipated earlier this year, was postponed by several weeks. Officials said the delay was linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the visit will include President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, with plans also in place for a reciprocal visit by President Xi and Madame Peng Liyuan to Washington later this year.
President Trump stated that preparations for the visit are underway and described the upcoming meeting as a significant event in US-China relations.
The summit was initially expected to take place in late March or early April. However, the US administration had indicated a need to delay the meeting due to geopolitical developments.
Officials have previously suggested that the Iran conflict, which began in late February, is expected to last between four to six weeks, aligning with the revised timeline for the China visit.
The upcoming meeting is expected to focus on key economic and geopolitical issues, as both countries navigate global uncertainty.
