About
Eugene Haines FAIBF’s journey is a compelling reflection of resilience, entrepreneurial courage, and purpose-driven leadership. Based in Dublin, he has built a legacy that spans decades across the automotive and financial services industries, demonstrating an ability to adapt, evolve, and lead with integrity in an ever-changing business landscape.
His early life laid the foundation for the leader he would become. Raised in a large family and guided by the strength and wisdom of his mother, Eugene developed a strong sense of determination from a young age. Entering the workforce at just sixteen, he began his career as a trainee in a family-owned Ford dealership. This early exposure to business operations not only grounded his energy but also helped him cultivate practical skills and a deep understanding of people, an attribute that would later define his leadership style.
Over the years, Eugene steadily rose through the ranks, eventually reaching director-level positions. However, his entrepreneurial spirit pushed him to pursue something of his own. In 1990, he took his first major leap into entrepreneurship. While his initial venture faced challenges due to global economic conditions, those experiences proved invaluable, shaping his resilience and sharpening his strategic mindset. A subsequent transition into financial services further broadened his expertise, equipping him with leadership and operational skills that would play a crucial role in his future success.
A defining moment in his journey came in 2004, when an opportunity within the Joe Duffy BMW Group allowed him to establish Haines Fleet Management. Under his leadership, the company has grown into one of Ireland’s leading independent vehicle leasing and fleet management specialists. Known for delivering tailored solutions to corporate clients, the organization reflects Eugene’s commitment to excellence, efficiency, and meaningful client relationships.
Eugene’s leadership philosophy is both unique and insightful. He describes himself not merely as a managing director, but as a “conductor”, someone who orchestrates people, processes, and ideas to create harmony within an organization. This perspective highlights his focus on empowering teams, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that every part of the business works together seamlessly toward a shared vision.
His ability to navigate adversity is particularly evident during the global financial crisis of 2008. At a time when the industry faced immense uncertainty, Eugene demonstrated remarkable composure and strategic thinking. Managing a fleet with significant financial exposure, he adapted by offering flexible solutions to clients while absorbing financial pressures to sustain the business. This period tested his resilience but ultimately reinforced his reputation as a leader capable of steering through crisis with courage and clarity.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, one of the most defining aspects of Eugene’s journey is his deep belief in the importance of one’s “mental diet.” He emphasises that just as physical well-being depends on what we consume, mental well-being is shaped by the thoughts, media, and influences we allow into our lives. This philosophy became especially significant during the pandemic period, when he experienced what he describes as “neuro flu,” a condition that brought emotional sensitivity and challenged even the simplest decision-making processes.
During this time, Eugene became acutely aware of how excessive exposure to news, societal noise, and even well-meaning external influences could negatively impact mental clarity and emotional balance. A particularly difficult experience involving a virtual interaction that turned into a blackmail scam tested his resilience, but it also reinforced his ability to regain focus, draw on inner strength, and consciously shift toward more positive and uplifting mental inputs.
This turning point led him to actively reshape his mental environment. Through the Circle of Excellence Group, he explored the teachings of motivational speakers and found a strong connection with Robin Banks, whose approach helped him cultivate a more stable and empowering mindset. By consistently engaging with constructive content and intentional thought patterns, Eugene was able to break free from cycles of negative thinking and regain a renewed sense of direction and energy.
His journey of self-mastery and mental conditioning took a transformative leap in 2021 when he connected with Cobus Visser, a key exponent of Robin Banks’ work. What followed was an experience that pushed him far beyond his comfort zone, embracing the idea of firewalking. Initially perceived as unconventional, this experience became a powerful metaphor for confronting fear and stepping into growth. His decision to travel to South Africa, despite global uncertainty, marked a defining moment of courage, commitment, and trust in the process of personal evolution.
Immersed in an environment that encouraged the full use of human connection, sensory awareness, and shared experience, Eugene found profound value in stepping away from isolation and re-engaging with life in a meaningful way. The experience not only reinforced his belief in the power of human connection but also highlighted how stepping beyond habitual thinking patterns can unlock extraordinary personal breakthroughs.
Today, Eugene continues to advocate for a conscious approach to mental well-being, encouraging others to evaluate what they allow into their minds and to actively cultivate a mindset that supports growth, resilience, and positivity. His story serves as a reminder that true leadership extends beyond business success; it lies in mastering one’s inner world and inspiring others to do the same.
