Texas Instruments Pledges $60 Billion U.S. Chip Investment Amid Manufacturing Push

Dallas, TX - Texas Instruments (TI) announced plans to invest more than $60 billion in U.S.-based semiconductor manufacturing, in what the company calls the largest domestic chip investment in history.

The Dallas-headquartered chipmaker will build or expand seven fabrication facilities across three sites in Texas and Utah, aiming to bolster production of foundational semiconductors used in smartphones, vehicles, and industrial equipment. TI says the initiative could support up to 60,000 jobs, though no specific timeline was disclosed.

“This is the largest investment in foundational semiconductor manufacturing in U.S. history,” the company said in a statement.

The announcement comes as President Donald Trump pressures major tech firms to scale up domestic chip production. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick lauded the move, calling it a “decades-long partnership” to support national supply chain resilience.

The pledge follows Micron’s expanded U.S. commitment of $200 billion and arrives amid Trump’s threats to withdraw the $52.7 billion CHIPS and Science Act, a signature policy introduced by former President Joe Biden. The Biden administration had previously approved a $1.6 billion subsidy for TI tied to a separate $18 billion project announced in December.

While TI's latest commitment includes some pre-allocated capital, analysts view such announcements as politically strategic amid tariff threats and federal subsidy uncertainty.

Texas Instruments, a global leader in analog and embedded chips, faces rising competition from Chinese manufacturers in the lower-end semiconductor market. It counts Apple, SpaceX, and Ford among its major clients.

The company operates 15 facilities worldwide, with a growing focus on securing its position in the U.S. manufacturing base.
