Private Chef Salaries Hit $300,000 as Demand Surges Among the Ultra-Wealthy

The market for luxury household staff is experiencing unprecedented growth, with private chefs now earning as much as $300,000 annually as affluent families expand their demand for personalized services, according to a new report by Morgan & Mallet International.

The study highlights a sharp rise in hiring across several domestic roles, including butlers, estate managers, personal assistants, nannies, chauffeurs, and housekeepers. Industry experts attribute the trend to the increasing number of high-net-worth individuals managing multiple residences and seeking greater privacy in their personal lives.

Private chefs have emerged as one of the most sought-after professionals in the luxury employment sector. In the United States, experienced chefs are reportedly earning between $100,000 and $300,000 per year, with Michelin-trained professionals and specialists in dietary cuisine commanding the highest salaries.

The report notes that many wealthy families now prefer restaurant-quality dining in the comfort of their own homes, reducing the need to visit exclusive restaurants while maintaining privacy and convenience.

Demand has also strengthened for highly skilled personal assistants, who remain the most requested household professionals in the U.S. Depending on experience and responsibilities, executive and personal assistants can earn up to $250,000 annually.

Estate managers and house managers are also seeing significant salary growth as wealthy households expand their property portfolios across multiple cities and countries. According to the report, experienced household managers in the U.S. can earn between $150,000 and $250,000, while butlers overseeing operations, security, and logistics across luxury estates may receive salaries of up to $180,000.

The report further reveals growing demand for multilingual nannies and caregivers with expertise in supporting children with special needs. Travelling nannies are among the highest-paid professionals in the sector, with some positions in the United Arab Emirates offering annual salaries of up to $163,000.

Beyond technical expertise, employers are placing greater emphasis on confidentiality, discretion, and digital awareness. In major luxury markets such as Los Angeles, many household employees are now required to sign non-disclosure agreements, while restrictions on social media activity have become increasingly common.

Morgan & Mallet International also observed that long-term employment relationships are becoming less common. Whereas household staff once remained with the same employer for decades, the average tenure has now fallen to approximately three years as competition for experienced professionals intensifies worldwide.

The findings reflect a broader transformation in the luxury employment market, where personalized service, operational expertise, and trust have become increasingly valuable assets. As wealthy families continue expanding their global lifestyles, demand for experienced household professionals is expected to remain strong in the years ahead.
