Nvidia, AMD to Give U.S. Government 15% of China Chip Sales Revenues in Exchange for Export Licenses

Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) have agreed to hand over 15% of revenues from certain chip sales in China to the U.S. government, the Financial Times reported Sunday.

In return, the two semiconductor giants will receive export licenses to sell Nvidia’s H20 and AMD’s MI308 artificial intelligence chips in China, products previously restricted under U.S. export controls.

The deal marks an unprecedented revenue-sharing arrangement between the White House and private chipmakers, reflecting President Donald Trump’s willingness to use trade policy as leverage while carving out targeted exemptions.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met with Trump last week, according to the FT. In a statement, Nvidia said: “We follow rules the U.S. government sets for our participation in worldwide markets.”

The agreement comes days after Trump threatened to impose a 100% tariff on semiconductor imports unless companies manufacture chips in the United States, a policy that has sent ripples through global tech supply chains.
