Nike Delays Launch of NikeSKIMS Activewear Line Amid Production Setbacks
The launch of NikeSKIMS, the highly anticipated collaboration between Nike Inc. and Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS brand, has been delayed due to internal production issues, a source familiar with the matter confirmed Wednesday.
Originally expected to debut in spring, the activewear line will now be released later this year. No new launch date has been announced. The delay is not related to supply chain disruptions but stems from internal scheduling challenges, the source noted.
Despite the setback, the partnership between Nike and Kardashian remains intact. Both parties are said to be aligned on taking the time necessary to ensure the product meets expectations for performance and design.
Nike first announced the collaboration in February, unveiling plans for a full range of apparel, footwear, and accessories. The move is part of a broader effort by the company’s new CEO, Elliott Hill, to reignite growth following recent sales declines.
The delay follows the departure of Heidi O’Neill, a key figure behind the partnership. Still, insiders say Nike views the SKIMS line as central to its strategy to attract a younger, more style-conscious female consumer base.
For SKIMS, most recently valued at $4 billion, the collaboration with Nike represents a major step into the activewear space, beyond its shapewear origins.
Nike’s stock is down more than 20% year-to-date, adding pressure to execute successful product launches.
“The origin of NikeSKIMS is rooted in a desire to bring something new and unexpected to an industry that is craving something different,” the company said when first announcing the line.
The news was first reported by Bloomberg.
