Nike Delays Launch of NikeSKIMS Line With Kim Kardashian Due to Production Issues

Nike has postponed the launch of its much-anticipated activewear collaboration with Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS, citing internal production delays, according to a source familiar with the matter. The NikeSKIMS line, originally set for a spring release, is now expected to debut later this year, though no new launch date has been confirmed.

The delay, according to the source, is not due to supplier or shipping issues, but rather internal processes. Despite the setback, Nike and Kardashian remain aligned on the partnership, and the focus remains on perfecting the product before release.

High Expectations for NikeSKIMS

The collaboration between Nike and SKIMS, co-founded by Kim Kardashian, was first announced in February. The line is expected to feature apparel, footwear, and accessories that combine athletic performance with signature SKIMS style.

Nike described the partnership as an opportunity to offer “disruptive product designed to meet women’s needs in both performance and style.” Kardashian remains directly involved as chief creative officer of SKIMS, which was last valued at $4 billion.

The project has become central to Nike’s strategy under new CEO Elliott Hill, who is seeking to revitalize the brand amid declining sales. For SKIMS, the collaboration marks a strategic move into the athleisure and activewear space, opening the brand to a wider, global fitness market.

Executive Shifts and Market Impact

Since the partnership was announced, Heidi O’Neill, one of the executives who helped initiate the deal, has exited the company. Despite the leadership change, insiders maintain that the collaboration remains a top priority for both Nike and SKIMS.

Nike shares have fallen over 20% year-to-date, as the brand works to recover from weakened performance across key markets.

At the time of its announcement, Nike said:
"The origin of NikeSKIMS is rooted in a desire to bring something new and unexpected to an industry that is craving something different, and to invite a new generation of women into fitness."

Though delayed, industry analysts continue to view NikeSKIMS as a potential game-changer in the women’s activewear category, merging two powerful lifestyle brands for what could be one of the year’s most influential fashion-sport crossovers.
