McDonald’s to Hire 375,000 Workers in U.S. This Summer
McDonald’s announced plans on Monday to hire up to 375,000 workers across its company-owned and franchised restaurants in the United States this summer.
The announcement was made during a press conference attended by U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, highlighting the fast-food chain’s growing alignment with the Trump administration. The hiring drive is McDonald’s largest in several years and comes as the company prepares for increased seasonal demand.
The company, one of the nation’s largest private employers, is also expanding its footprint with a goal of opening 900 new U.S. locations by 2027.
During the event, McDonald’s and Secretary Chavez-DeRemer marked the 10-year anniversary of the company’s Archways to Opportunity program, which provides tuition assistance and educational resources to employees, including support for earning high school diplomas and college degrees.
McDonald’s typically launches large-scale hiring efforts in the summer. In 2020, the company aimed to hire around 260,000 workers as it reopened dining rooms following pandemic-related closures. The 2025 hiring target reflects both a rebound in foot traffic and McDonald’s long-term domestic expansion strategy.
The event also signals a continued warming of relations between McDonald’s and the Trump administration. The company made headlines for contributing $1 million to Trump’s second inauguration — its first such donation in more than a decade. In addition, executives from McDonald’s and other major fast-food brands have held meetings with Secretary Chavez-DeRemer to discuss labor-related policies, including the joint employer rule and pro-union legislation.
McDonald’s has previously said it is not a political brand, but its growing engagement with policymakers comes amid heightened scrutiny of employment practices across the restaurant industry.
The company said it remains committed to supporting employees and creating opportunities as it enters one of the busiest hiring seasons of the year.
