An IndiGo flight en route from Delhi to Goa was diverted to Mumbai on Wednesday night following a mid-air technical snag, prompting aviation authorities to declare a full emergency.

The aircraft, operating as Flight 6E 6271, was originally scheduled to land at Goa’s Manohar International Airport. However, as a precautionary measure, it was rerouted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai.

The emergency was declared at 9:35pm, and the flight made a safe landing at 9:52pm. The emergency status was lifted five minutes later, according to a statement issued by CSMIA.

“All passengers were safely deboarded and assisted by terminal staff,” airport authorities said. “There was no disruption to regular airport operations. At CSMIA, safety remains our highest priority.”

Alternate Aircraft Deployed

IndiGo confirmed that an alternative aircraft had been arranged to resume the journey to Goa. In a statement, the airline expressed regret over the delay.

“The replacement flight will depart shortly with all customers on board. At IndiGo, the safety of our passengers, crew, and aircraft is paramount,” the airline said.

The exact nature of the technical issue has not been publicly disclosed. However, aviation sources suggested the situation was handled promptly by both the flight crew and ground teams, ensuring passenger safety throughout.

This is the second reported emergency involving an IndiGo flight in recent months. Earlier, a Delhi-Patna flight made an emergency landing after a bird strike.
