Budget Session 2025 Begins: Nirmala Sitharaman to Table Economic Survey Today

New Delhi: The Budget Session of Parliament commences today, marking a crucial phase in India's economic and legislative calendar. The session will begin with President Droupadi Murmu's address to the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, setting the stage for discussions on policy direction and governance.

Following the President’s address, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the Economic Survey 2024-25, a key document that assesses the nation’s economic health and outlines the government’s vision for growth, reforms, and fiscal management.

Key Highlights of the Budget Session:

1️⃣ Opening Address by the President:

President Droupadi Murmu will deliver the inaugural speech, outlining the government's policy priorities.

2️⃣ Economic Survey Presentation:

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey 2024-25 in both Houses of Parliament.
The survey, prepared under the guidance of Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran, will provide an official assessment of the economy and a roadmap for the upcoming fiscal year.
It will highlight growth projections, fiscal policies, key challenges, and potential reforms.

3️⃣ Legislative Agenda: 16 Key Bills Listed for Consideration

The government has listed 16 bills for debate and passage during this session. Some of the key legislative proposals include:
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill
The Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill
The Railways (Amendment) Bill
The Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill
The Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill
The Protection of Interests in Aircraft Objects Bill
The Immigration and Foreigners Bill

4️⃣ Full Union Budget 2025-26 to Be Tabled on February 1

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the first full Budget of the Modi 3.0 government on Saturday, February 1.
The budget is expected to address key economic concerns, including potential changes in income tax slabs, infrastructure spending, and fiscal management.

5️⃣ Session Timeline and Structure:

The Budget Session is divided into two parts:
Phase 1: January 31 to February 13
Phase 2: March 10 to April 4
Parliament will hold 27 sittings over the entire session.

6️⃣ Motion of Thanks to President’s Address:

Lok Sabha has allocated two days (February 3-4) for discussions on the Motion of Thanks to President Murmu’s address.
Rajya Sabha will conduct its debate over three days.
What to Expect in the Budget 2025-26?
With rising expectations for tax reforms, industry leaders and taxpayers are looking forward to possible adjustments in income tax slabs, GST restructuring, and increased spending on infrastructure, healthcare, and social welfare programs.

Additionally, the government may outline measures to boost employment, digital transformation, and manufacturing growth in line with its ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision.

The Budget Session will set the course for India’s economic trajectory in the coming financial year, with a focus on stability, reforms, and sustained growth.
