Early in her career, including her eight-year role as Manager of Business Training and Consulting with the Business Development Bank of Canada, Denise observed a recurring pattern in many organizations. Talented professionals were often promoted into leadership roles because they excelled at their technical work, yet they were rarely given the development or support needed to succeed as leaders. Technical expertise, she realized, does not automatically translate into leadership effectiveness. That insight became a defining influence on her work and ultimately shaped the mission of The Learning Edge.

At The Learning Edge, the focus has always been on helping organizations move beyond leadership theory and into meaningful leadership practice. Over the decades, Denise and her team have been innovative in developing and facilitating solutions that help leaders at all levels strengthen self-awareness, communication, collaboration, and accountability.
