Sunita Teckchand is a highly qualified clinical aromatherapist and integrated holistic therapist with over 27 years of experience in alternative medicine and complementary healthcare. Originally from Hong Kong, she moved to Dubai in 1997, seeking a better quality of life for her family. Recognizing the lack of awareness and accessibility in holistic therapies, she identified a niche market and launched Dubai’s first dedicated aromatherapy center in 1999. Holding a specialized rehabilitation license, she successfully ran the center for nine years before taking a sabbatical due to burnout.
In 2010, Sunita established The Holistic Institute in JLT, an accredited adult education center offering alternative therapy courses with IFPA and ITEC qualifications. However, regulatory changes led to its closure in 2014. She then expanded her reach by conducting seminars and workshops in Hong Kong and London. Anticipating the shift towards digital education, Sunita launched an online teaching platform in 2018, focusing on a Level 4/5 Clinical Aromatherapy Diploma accredited by The International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (UK). The platform continues to attract students worldwide, providing comprehensive education in aromatherapy.
Apart from her teaching endeavors, Sunita founded her own brand of pure organic essential oils, ‘eSSensuals,’ which students can purchase at a discount during their studies. These products are available on www.theholisticalternatives.org. Her journey into aromatherapy began in Hong Kong, where a compassionate therapist helped alleviate her chronic back pain, igniting her passion for holistic healing.
The Holistic Alternatives is a digital training platform offering diploma courses in clinical aromatherapy accredited by IFPA. The student-centric structure allows learners to access materials at their convenience, complete modules sequentially, and submit assignments and case studies for certification. The curriculum includes essential oil profiles, base oils, anatomy, physiology, pathology, professional development, and business awareness. Additionally, short courses provide basic insights into aromatherapy, and practical skills like massage and reflexology are available for students in the UAE.
As part of its growth strategy, the platform continuously expands its course offerings. Sunita is currently working on obtaining accreditation from NAHA (National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy) in the US and aims to introduce advanced clinical aromatherapy programs.
Despite a quieter year post-COVID, The Holistic Alternatives continues to attract students globally. To enhance engagement, Sunita hosts Zoom webinars and career advancement discussions, ensuring accessibility to holistic education. As the only online training provider in the UAE offering an extensive 800+ hour curriculum, the platform stands out in the competitive market.
Research remains a core focus, particularly in sustainability and the ethical sourcing of essential oils. Sunita emphasizes education, ensuring that graduates become skilled professionals who provide safe, effective treatments. Her approach bridges natural remedies with modern healthcare, fostering a holistic wellness culture.
For those aspiring to enter the field, Sunita advises creating a structured and user-friendly curriculum, ensuring comprehensive resources, and maintaining high academic standards. Digital education requires well-organized manuals, prompt responses to student inquiries, and accessible study materials.
Sunita Teckchand’s unwavering dedication to aromatherapy and holistic healthcare has shaped an industry-leading platform. Her pioneering spirit, commitment to research, and focus on quality education continue to set benchmarks in the field.
