Bengali Actor Sreelekha Mitra Accuses Malayalam Film Director Ranjith of Inappropriate Behavior
Bengali actor Sreelekha Mitra has made serious allegations against Malayalam film director Ranjith, who is also the chairman of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy. She claims that during a meeting in Kochi to discuss a film project, Ranjith behaved inappropriately, touching her bangles, hair, and the nape of her neck. The meeting involved discussions about a movie featuring Mammootty in a lead role.
Allegations Against Malayalam Film Director Ranjith
Sreelekha shared her experience in an interview with a Malayalam channel, where she identified Malayalam film director Ranjith as the person who allegedly crossed the line during their interaction. Although she could not initially remember the film's name, it was later revealed to be Paleri Manikyam, a 2009 movie where Mammootty played a negative role.
According to Sreelekha, the incident occurred at Ranjith’s apartment in Kochi. She described how he first touched her bangles, which she assumed was an innocent gesture. However, when he moved on to play with her hair and touch the nape of her neck, she quickly left the room and informed the assistant director that she would not be participating in the film.
Ranjith, however, has denied these accusations, stating that Sreelekha was upset about being rejected for the role and expressed her frustration to his associate director, Shankar Ramakrishnan. Ranjith said, “I don’t know who is behind this. Let us see how far she will go. At least I will get an opportunity to be heard.”
Documentary Filmmaker Supports Allegations Against Ranjith
Documentary filmmaker Joshi Joseph, who introduced Sreelekha to Malayalam film director Ranjith and his team, corroborated her claims. Joseph confirmed that Sreelekha contacted Shankar Ramakrishnan immediately after the incident, informing him of her decision to withdraw from the project.
The accusations against Malayalam film director Ranjith have sparked widespread conversation in the film industry, highlighting concerns about the treatment of actors and the importance of addressing such issues openly and transparently.
