Cold Winds and Heavy Rains: Red Alert Issued for 4 States Amid Late Monsoon Showers

Table of Contents

The country is experiencing a unique combination of cooling temperatures and heavy rains as the monsoon season lingers longer than expected. IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) has issued a red alert for four states today, warning of potential downpours that could lead to significant disruption. While mornings and evenings are beginning to feel chilly, the relentless rain continues to cause problems in many regions.

IMD's Weather Forecast: Delhi to Receive Rains for 3 Days

Despite the monsoon typically withdrawing by mid-September, this year’s rains are continuing with no sign of stopping. The IMD has forecast heavy rains in over 18 states, bringing with them the added chill of cold winds.

For Delhi, the next three days will be wet and rainy, with today's weather likely to change by the evening. According to the forecast, the capital could see significant rainfall, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 34°C and the minimum 26°C. Cold winds will also sweep across the region, intensifying the feeling of the already present autumn chill.

Madhya Pradesh Faces Rain-Related Tragedy

Madhya Pradesh has been particularly hard hit by heavy rains over the past few days, with more than 10 districts severely affected. On Sunday and Monday alone, 12 people lost their lives due to rain-related accidents. In Vidisha, five people drowned in the Betwa River, while in Sehore, a doctor tragically lost his life at the Digambar waterfall.

The IMD has predicted that the weather in Madhya Pradesh will remain unstable for at least the next four days. In neighboring Rajasthan, similarly heavy rains are expected, further adding to the state's weather woes.

Red Alert for Four States: Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh

In a severe weather update, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh have all been placed under a red alert due to forecasts of heavy to very heavy rains. The IMD warns that the rain in these states could cause flooding and other weather-related disasters, and the public has been urged to remain cautious.

In addition to these four states, rain is expected across Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Goa, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and several northeastern states, including Assam, Manipur, and Sikkim.

Rain Delays Monsoon's Departure

The delayed withdrawal of the monsoon has led to chaos in various parts of India. Normally, the rains would have subsided by September 10, but this year has seen heavy showers continuing well into the month. As the cold begins to take hold, the unrelenting rain is adding another layer of challenge for both citizens and local authorities trying to cope with flooded streets and agricultural disruptions.

A Challenging Few Days Ahead

The forecast indicates that many regions across India are in for a rough few days. With heavy rains persisting and cold winds adding to the discomfort, the IMD’s red alert serves as a reminder for everyone to stay vigilant and prepared for any potential emergencies caused by the weather. As the monsoon lingers longer than expected, states across the country must brace for more wet and stormy conditions ahead.
