At the Lausanne Diamond League, Grenada’s Anderson Peters claimed first place with an outstanding throw of 90.61 meters, setting a new record. Julian Weber from Germany secured third place with a throw of 87.08 meters. Peters, who won bronze at the Paris Olympics 2024, continued his impressive form.
After the competition, Neeraj Chopra reflected on his performance, saying, "The feeling wasn't great at first, but I´m happy with my throw, especially the second-best throw of my career on the last attempt. It was a tough start, but the comeback was really nice, and I enjoyed the fighting spirit I showed." Despite early throws around 80-83 meters, Chopra’s determination shone through in his final two attempts.
Road Ahead: Diamond League Final and Olympic Achievements
With this strong finish at the Lausanne Diamond League, Neeraj Chopra now holds third place in the overall rankings, setting him up favorably to qualify for the Diamond League Final in Brussels this September. Chopra made history in 2022 as the first Indian to win the Diamond League title and followed it up with a silver medal last year.
Additionally, Neeraj Chopra secured a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a throw of 89.45 meters. Although he narrowly missed retaining his gold medal, the event saw Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem take gold with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters. Chopra’s silver also made him the second Indian male athlete to win two Olympic medals in an individual event, joining the ranks of wrestler Sushil Kumar and shuttler PV Sindhu.
