Escalation in Israel-Lebanon Conflict Amid Ceasefire Negotiations
The longstanding conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified, with Israeli forces conducting extensive airstrikes across Lebanon. Targets included Hezbollah positions in Nabatiyeh, Baalbek, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Beirut. Lebanon's health ministry reported at least 31 fatalities in a single day due to these strikes. The conflict, which began in October 2023, has resulted in significant casualties on both sides. International bodies, including the United Nations and the European Union, are advocating for a ceasefire to halt the escalating violence.
The Israeli Cabinet is set to vote on a proposed ceasefire deal with Lebanon. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given preliminary approval to the plan, which includes a two-month ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon. Hezbollah is expected to cease its armed presence south of the Litani River as part of the agreement. The international community is closely monitoring these developments, hoping for a resolution to the prolonged conflict.
