Israel Escalates Airstrikes in Lebanon Amid Hezbollah Tensions
Israel has intensified its airstrikes on Hezbollah’s strongholds in southern Beirut, marking one of the most violent escalations since the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah took a critical turn. Airstrikes, which began last night, sent thick clouds of smoke over densely populated areas in Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, targeting Hezbollah infrastructure. Israeli forces claimed that Muhammad Ali Ismail, the head of Hezbollah’s missile unit, and other senior officials, were killed in the operation. Despite the strikes, Hezbollah’s chief, Hassan Nasrallah, remains elusive, with Hezbollah sources stating that he survived the bombardment.
In response, Hezbollah launched retaliatory rockets into northern Israel, leading to further warnings from Israel’s military. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the UN General Assembly, stating that Israel would continue its military campaign until the northern border is secure. He also warned Tehran, accusing Iran of supporting Hezbollah’s actions, and vowed that Israel would respond if provoked.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in widespread destruction and loss of life, with concerns growing about the potential for a ground invasion in Lebanon. International organizations, including the United Nations, have expressed alarm over the escalating violence, with fears that the situation could deteriorate further.
