BCCI Faces Warning as India’s Champions Trophy 2025 Participation in Pakistan Remains Uncertain"
Discussions over India's participation in the 2025 Champions Trophy, set to be hosted in Pakistan, have intensified amid reports suggesting reluctance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to travel across the border. The political tensions between the two nations have prevented any bilateral cricket series for over a decade, though Pakistan did visit India for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Amid the uncertainty, the BCCI has proposed a 'hybrid' model, suggesting that India play its matches in a neutral venue like Dubai. Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif voiced strong opinions on the matter during an interview with Geo News, warning that Pakistan could take drastic measures if India opts out of the tournament.
“ICC exists only because there is Pakistan and India. If the government of Pakistan also says like India that we won't play, then the ICC will be of no use as no one will watch the match,” said Latif. He emphasized the importance of India’s participation in ICC events, highlighting the contractual obligations both nations have with the ICC for the 2024-2031 cycle.
Reports indicate that if India refuses to travel, Pakistan may approach the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to resolve the issue. The cricketing world now waits to see how the BCCI and ICC navigate this complex situation that could have significant implications for the Champions Trophy and international cricket relations.
